I spray about 1/3 bottle of hydrogen peroxid($1 at most places) at the inside fins to clean any mold or bacteria issues. Frequency depends on how humid your environment is, but I do it once a month in Dallas, Texas during the months I use them. Dilute with water if you don't need it that strong.

I haven't had any mold issues with mine either. You just want to make sure and set the support bars so the unit is sloped just a degree or two downwards so that condensed water does in fact gravitate towards the outside, where it can drain. If you really want to, you can drill a hole or two in the bottom of the unit to assist with drainage, but I haven't had the need.

These units are so far superior to older AC technology.....it's an absolute game changer.

What I REALLY wish is that they would discount the units that have heat pump capability. I have two of them as well and would buy one more. It's amazing the amount of heat they can put out per watt, as compared to resistive space heaters.

I've got a 8000 BTU unit that I've been using for two summers and a 12000 BTU that I've had for one summer, and I think they're great. My central AC runs far, far less often, so my electricity bill had been noticeably lower despite the summers getting hotter.
It is predicted to be in the mid to upper 80's already next week down here in south Texas. I hope I don't have to install them already.
Mold? I didn't have any issues with that. On humid days, the AC can pull enough water out of the air that the water pools up in the outside portion of the AC. Some people would drill drain holes in the unit, but I just folded up a paper towel into a strip and tucked it between the fins and the case so it wicks the excess water out of the unit and into a bucket or onto a thirsty plant. Works great.

For those who have used these:

Will this still install correctly on an an old house with OLD wooden Pain style windows?

You can still open the window, but will the screen and window both fit in between? Pictures I see of the unit makes it seem like you cant have a screen there when window open to bring in fresh air.

Got the 8K unit and it runs great for 2 hot and dry Cali summer, on eco mode only use 300w and maybe surge to 800w on first start when temp outside is much hotter than inside , hook mine to 500w solar panels and one of those power station like Bluetti or Ecoflow and it run straight from solar power for 5-6 hrs in daytime on sunny day

Agreed, I have been waiting for their heat pump models to go on sale. I have one now and by far it's the best window AC I've ever had. The heat it puts out is so soft compared to an electric resistive heater. It doesn't dry the air and there aren't any hot spots in the room. I need one more but so far I haven't seen anything.

Still specced at a maximum window width of 36". Anyone manage to mount these in a wider window (mine is 42" IIRC)?

Been looking around, can't find info. But I know other brands there is no "drain hole". The companies advise not to drill a hole, it isn't a mistake. They want the fan to spin in the water, to help cool system.

This brand, I didn't find the details. Anyone else was able to find more info?

I have an 8000 BTU unit that covers my family room dining room and kitchen. We only use the central AC for the back of the house. And this is in North Florida. Haven't had any issues with mold. As far as window units goes this is the best one we've ever had and it definitely keeps the front of the house ice cold.

The 8000 BTU unit that I have has a fan feature they just pulls in outside air on cool days. I never have to open the window

Correct you can't have the normal screen there. You can diy a screen though. laugh out loud

There's more than enough space in the gap to do it.

I bought two of the 12000 BTU models from Costco last July for $400 each when our central A/C went out. They were amazing and got my upstairs cooler than it was ever able to get with the central unit, and my electric bill was a lot lower than normal, too. We've got the central unit fixed now, but I'm planning to still keep these installed and will let the central unit just supplement them.

No mold on my 8k u-shape or my 12k with heater in 3 years. Both left stock, no drilling.
do you keep this installed year round then if you have both heat and cold?
