I spray about 1/3 bottle of hydrogen peroxid($1 at most places) at the inside fins to clean any mold or bacteria issues. Frequency depends on how humid your environment is, but I do it once a month in Dallas, Texas during the months I use them. Dilute with water if you don't need it that strong.

I haven't had any mold issues with mine either. You just want to make sure and set the support bars so the unit is sloped just a degree or two downwards so that condensed water does in fact gravitate towards the outside, where it can drain. If you really want to, you can drill a hole or two in the bottom of the unit to assist with drainage, but I haven't had the need.

These units are so far superior to older AC technology.....it's an absolute game changer.

What I REALLY wish is that they would discount the units that have heat pump capability. I have two of them as well and would buy one more. It's amazing the amount of heat they can put out per watt, as compared to resistive space heaters.

I've got a 8000 BTU unit that I've been using for two summers and a 12000 BTU that I've had for one summer, and I think they're great. My central AC runs far, far less often, so my electricity bill had been noticeably lower despite the summers getting hotter.
It is predicted to be in the mid to upper 80's already next week down here in south Texas. I hope I don't have to install them already.
Mold? I didn't have any issues with that. On humid days, the AC can pull enough water out of the air that the water pools up in the outside portion of the AC. Some people would drill drain holes in the unit, but I just folded up a paper towel into a strip and tucked it between the fins and the case so it wicks the excess water out of the unit and into a bucket or onto a thirsty plant. Works great.

Good to know. I would love one of these for my bedroom except my oldschool 10K unit produces the absolute perfect white noise I need to drown out neighborhood noise. Maybe if I invest in a good white noise machine I might still come out ahead with one of these.
LOL, I hear ya, I had to get a noisy fan!

Love mine

My bedroom only has one extra-wide window and our climate is moderate, so I really couldn't give up being able to open the window all summer and didn't want to block a ton of it from view.

Window is too wide for the bracket, so I just mounted the AC up against one edge of the window and drilled the other side of the bracket into the sill.

Used some styrofoam to extend the window seal the full width.

Built an L-shaped screen that I can install while the AC is still in place so I can open the window and still keep bugs out.

So not only is it much nicer to have in my window, but the inverter tech does lead to much "nicer" operation than a traditional unit.

Just to add some info regarding the customer service and exchanges/refunds... I bought 2 8K units in December 2021 and one still works perfectly but the compressor went out on the other September of last year. Because it was a compressor problem, they did honor the warranty. However I got a bit of runaround because they wanted me to bring it in to Home Depot for an exchange but Home Depot refused to accept Midea's RMA/exchange process. Honestly I'm not sure the Midea people were too sure either because they apologized and just sent me a check for the cost of the one unit. In all it took about a month to get resolved but I can't really complain. The refund was more than the price of this deal for the 8K unit so I'm thinking of getting another one and I guess recycle the broken one (that's a shame though).

Tldr... Customer service is helpful but their RMA/exchange process is a little wonky and can take a while.

Before you guys buy one of those, you should go read the reviews(and watch the one linked video).

Most are about a mold issue stemming from their defective drain holes.
Had mine for 3 yrs and no mold and it's not like seattle and chicago are known for being dry, of course I also mounted correctly with a slight slope away from the windows. It has been by far the best window unit I've ever had and would hesitate to buy another model (midea's non u units are crap IME.)

Eyeballing this thing wondering how hard it would be to cut it in half and turn it into a mini split for a camper trailer. I'm sure I could take care of the wiring, just need a guy to extend the AC lines and recharge.

There's GE U shaped that expands. It might be a better fit for this situation.

except these are few hundred bucks and a 5 ton ceer 15 central unit is probably close to 10 grand @ at a 5+% opportunity cash cost if pay cash or much higher interest rate if using a line of credit.

I'd like to see these with more thought out styling , linked up with a cello type thermostat and occupancy sensors would be a great retrofit especially in older homes with low slopes and ceilings.

Problem with central anything these days is they are soon out of date, so any computation has to take into account you're going to leave it there till it croaks.
3 houses 2 years - $5665 was the highest i paid 2023 (5 ton 15.5 seer2)
2 were 4 ton AC/heat pumps in NE FL ($4972 and $4400)
1 from 1994 other 2001. CAC was from 2008

unless you are located south of broward county FL you will still need to heat your home. So, add in the cost of a heating system OR it's heated/cooled via a heat pump.

Good luck trying to sell a home without central AC in Texas, or FL (person which I originally responded to, is in TX) unless its a dump.

I'm in New Jersey and have not had any issues with mold and have not had to drill a drain hole. If you are in a humid climate think twice about this unit as mold will be a problem.
do you removeit in the winter or leave it in? if you leaqve it in do you have a lot of cold coming in?

Anyone able to confirm if a 2000 watt generator will run the 12k btu unit? Generator is 2k watt with 1600 watt continuous. I know the 8k btu would be fine.

I've had to clean mine once a year to eradicate mold. By clean I mean take off 20 screws, 5 wire connectors, disinfect/dishwash blower wheel, disinfect and brush indoor coil….not fun. The indoor coil does not properly drain to the outside no matter how much you tilt it.
Where do you live? Since some people are saying they don't have this problem could it be that people that live in dryer and less humid climates might not have this issue?

I was thinking about this as well. However, I don't have anything making white noise during the winter, so I figured a quiet AC will be fine. Sometimes the trash or recycling pick-up wakes me, but that happened on occasion with the AC fan running, too.

Bought 3x 12K btu from costco for $280 each, last season
This price of $300 is excellent. Don't sweat the $20 difference.
So far they have been workhorses. One is all rusted on the outside but have not noticed any mold.
