I've also had issues with a sony tv and Samsung (currently) point is. Any tv could be problematic
You're correct, but 2 in a row.... I'm out.
Which series was that?

Having had numerous TCL TVs I would absolutely stay away from the 4 series, the 5 series would be the lowest model I'd ever consider.

Two different 4 series developed awful dead spots, all of the 6 series TVs I've ever had work just fine.

gosh, I finally decided on the Sony X90L over the QM8, then this happens. QM8 pulls ahead at this price.
TCL 98" for $1999 with free mounting from Best Buy could be a surprise choice also.

Uses: bright room, AppleTV, xbox/ps5, netflix, 4k bluray, sports, youtubetv, disney, etc

At this point I rather wait for the new QM8 or QM7.

My opinion.... Stay away from TCL. My first developed multiple fine line cracks all over the screen and wifi issues.... Fluke? Purchased another model.... Dozens of failed pixels all over the screen after a short period. Not getting 3 strikes from me.

That Best Buy 5 year warranty on a product like this is your friend

These Chinese Tv's seem to have quality control that can vary widely

That being said, if you get a good one this is a heck of a performance value for the price.
Will it compete with the higher end Samsung's and Sony's for all the fine details..NO...but one should not be expecting that either at this price.

my 4 series has been running fine for many years now. There's some QC issues in every make/model.

For all of the experts here--how would this set compare to an OLED screen? I know QLED is supposed to be quite close quality wise but is this a fact?

My TCL 5 series crapped out in less than two years (the panel was always bright when I think about it now) but my refurbished 4 series is running for four years and my Sony x90ch have lots of of issues with hdmi. I guess nowadays product doesn't matter, u just have to be lucky and always have give year warranty

It's not going to have the sharpness of the OLED, but you'll only notice on Black images on light backgrounds and vice versa. Going from a plasma to a miniled QLED, the blooming is there, but hardly noticeable.
