Because the axe7800 is a budget wifi 6e router and the 88u pro is more of a flagship wifi 6 router with much better processing power and better 5ghz and 2.4ghz radios. I have the ax6000 and briefly had the axe7800, which I sold because I was disappointed with it's performance.
I have this. Do not buy. biggest POS router I've had in a long while. Drops 5GHz connections constantly. Constant problems with 2.4GHz smart devices since getting it.
1.7GHz vs 2.0Ghz processor, 500mb vs 1Gb RAM. 2x2 vs 3x3 2.4 Ghz radio.

Noob question: why is this one with AXE7800 actually cheaper than RT-AX88U PRO with only AX6000? What's the catfch?

No catch. the RT-AX88U has 8 rj-45 in the back. 6GHz band is very limited use. In addition it is based on the RT-86U which is very highly regarded.

Is there an equivalent and highly regarded Wifi 6E flagship? I couldn't figure out which one by searching around, so just looking for info.

Was the 6E band not as good as running on 6? Even if it is budget wouldn't it have better performance and throughput?

What device/card are you using to receive the signal?

Not a bad deal, this router I believe can go much cheaper if people were to just hold the line.

Also if your going to be using AiMesh go with the Triband over the dual bands every time it will just be more beneficial in the future for those discussing the AX6000 vs the AXE78000. If you never plan on going AiMesh stick with the dual band all you want.

These may be dumb questions but.

1. Does this router allow you to share a drive on the network through the USB port like my old Netgear 7800?

2. Will I notice any real difference in speed or coverage over my 7800 AC2600? It still seems to function ok, although it needs to be reset a lot.

Thanks

6E/6Ghz is very short range and even shorter through walls. You're only gonna be able to use it when you're in the same room as the router, or maybe 6 feet away if there's a wall between you. And only the latest smartphones and laptops can do 6E anyways. It's not worth it

1. Yes
2. Only if you have Wi-Fi 6/AX or newer devices. It might actually be worse if you don't.

Okay but you said that you went back to 6 which is performing better.
What devices are you using to gauge the performance of 6 vs 6E?

Yes I'm aware of latest phones and laptops. My new motherboard has 6E built in and my iPhone also supports it but I'm still running an AC router and was looking for input
