Would be hesitant, from what I'm reading Asus often doesn't honor the warranty for open box despite what Best Buy says and the two year geek squad plan is $300 which would make it cost as much as the new price.

Don't know about Asus but Best Buy will honor the warranty. They will try to fix it or give you your money back. Know that from experience. Was with geek squad for 7 yrs. The 300$ dollar plan will extend that but also cover anything else you bought there like your fridge. They even came out under that plan and fixed our non Best Buy fridge for 50$. That said a laptop with that high end cpu and GPU is not going to last long. No way to keep them adequately cooled in a laptop.

I can only speak to the longevity of the cpu/gpu here. This is factually incorrect. Yes they run hot, but they thermal throttle into a potato in order to prevent damage even if the fans seize.

The thermal throttle from ROG BIOS is so aggressive and my only gripe with my old ROG laptop.

Reaffirming AV1982, all laptops have built in preventive measures to make the components last. Unless you wrap the laptop in a blanket and keep trying to force it to run you wont kill it with heat.

I know many people with gaming laptops that have been going strong for well over 5+ years, from Toshiba, Asus, and Dell.

I grabbed a TUF with the 7600s gpu for 530 open box - fair condition and it turned out to be a demo unit that looked brand new, only 3 months old from release date. YMMV

Anecdotal but I purchased an Open Box Excellent G14 last week and had to return it the next day, it had the common-ish issue where the solder points on the GPU were bad. Not sure if that's an issue for the bigger laptops but I would definitely be wary about buying any machine without a warranty.

I have this laptop, if you don't care about pushing it balls to the wall then you can use G-helper to help control the fan speeds / cpu power and have more respectable temps.

If I'm not playing a very CPU dependent game then I'll turn the CPU boost off and both the CPU and GPU temps will only be in the 70's with balanced fan speed, which is not bad. Turbo is like a freakin vacuum cleaner I can't handle it.

I'll use the 'efficient aggressive' cpu boost for more cpu intensive games and mid 80's is what the CPU pretty much sits at for me.

Obviously this is only ideal if you're not wanting to have all the high settings in AAA titles, not that it can really handle that anyway with only 8GB vram.

That's pretty much my limit, I don't know the longevity of thrashing the CPU at 95 degrees all the time, but I'm more comfortable in the 80's. GPU temps haven't broken the 70's for me in any mode.

My only beef is the crap screens, I've had a lot of Asus laptops, you're not going to get a nice quality panel with no backlight bleed, so you should expect some and hope it doesn't bother you. Mine is okay, can't really see it unless you're in a dark room and play something with dark scenes. But YMMV.

If it's overheating and blue screening whenever you try to do something intensive like gaming then that's likely the issue. Mine blue screened anytime I even tried to open a game.
