I purchased a 12k "hose-in-hose" Midea unit for my parents last year. It is superior to the single hose, but the inlet and outlet are in the same hose. Some air will mix. In addition, the part that seals in the window is not great. Even with applying foam, there are minor gaps.

All of these portable ACs are terrible when compared to a window AC. If you have a vertical window, you should consider a U shaped window AC. Not only does it cool faster, it's way quieter, doesn't take up any floor space, don't have to worry about dumping condensation water, has better window seal, and you can even open your window if you want to.
Having the dual tube design is very important. One tube for drawing in outside air and one for exhausting the hot air. Looks like a good deal from a great vendor. Congrats on making a good contribution to the site and welcome.
Good price. But I had a unit, broke after 2 months, had an error code that indicated refrigerant leak, god a full refund from Sam's.

Wire cutter has tested this exact model vs another LG model with one hose and the LG did better in their tests. Unless you MUST have a "portable" AC, stick with OG window AC for the reason you mentioned.

U is 15 SEER. Portable is 10. So using central HVAC might be economical since central HVAC are 15+ SEER

Doesn't matter if central hvac is 100 seer, (well maybe if it was 100.) Why would you want to have to cool your whole house if you are only in a bedroom or your living room? I've switched almost every primary room to U shaped inverters and portables. My bills have dropped by 25-40%, depending on the month, and I'm in Florida. Found out by accident when my hvac went out for over a month and I used a Midea window unit in summer.

You can not use a portable air conditioner without a window or some way to vent hot air outside. AC works by moving (removing) heat, and without a window you'll be dumping the same heat back into your room. Running a portable or window AC unit that way would actually cause your room to heat up because it will create heat while running and be unable to remove it from the space, so condensate would be the least of your worries, unfortunately.

I have a Midea A/C that looks like this one, except is also has a HEAT option that I never use.
It works well and is very powerful. It saves me from having to turn on central A/C during the summer and saves me a ton of money. Yes, it pays for itself over time if you were planning to use central A/C in a hot summer climate.

I bought it from Costco (I think) two years ago.

Depending on if you care what it looks like, you can get a piece of OSB plywood from Home Depot for $15 to fill in the gap above the top. If you want additional insulation, you can buy foam board insulation or a yoga mat to tape onto the plywood. Or you can just use the foam board insulation on its own with no plywood.

Where'd you get the DC Motor fan? Those are way quieter and can spin down to very low RPMs, but I can't find them in the US, at least in typical retail channels. The AC fans are terrible in comparison

It's worth noting that the Danby 10,000 at Costco for $399 is nearly this exact unit for those who do not have Sam's membership. Midea even produces it. The vents where air comes out appears to be the only difference.

Assuming this is the same compressor as the Danby, it's very quiet and I highly recommend.

Wouldn't outside air be warm too?

This is a great model, except be aware that it does take some inside air and vent it outside, which creates a slight negative air pressure. It's not fully closed between the two hoses, as I hoped it would be. But it's still much less so than a single hose unit.

What happens if you dont use the intake for an outside source of air?
These blow hot air exhaust through the hose. Without the exhaust, you will be blowing out both sides. Cool air in front and hot air in back.

The trouble isn't with cooling off the immediate room ... it's with sucking warm air into somewhere else in the house. With just an exhaust hose, this unit is pushing air out of the house, which results in that same amount of outside air getting "sucked" back into the house somewhere else. Net-net, there's still an overall cooling effect, but it's not as efficient as if you have a two-hose machine.

Easily over a gallon per day on humid days

The reason you want a dual hose is that a single hose creates a vacuum, and will pull it air through any crack or crevice you dont know you have. The dual hose doesnt create a vacuum as the second hose is sucking in the air from the window you have it in.

Whens its say 80 degrees out a single hose will work just fine, but get up into the 90's and humid your single hose wont work so great. It will be pulling in hot air through the floors and walls and will barely cool things down.

Of course window AC is better, but in situations like an apartment, or where HOA restrictions dont let you have window units etc.. they are useful.

This one IS a dual hose, but it's packaged into a single large elliptical hose. If you look at the pictures, you can see a circular opening at the end of the hose, and I *think* that's the exhaust portion, and the area around it is the intake. I might have it backwards, but basically it's two hoses lashed together into a single larger package.

This is correct. The kit for the window has a optional airflow guide that helps separate the air streams further.
