Trying to page to that drive with 8gb of ram isn't a good thing.
M1 with the faster drive? Good. M2 with 512? Good. M3+ also good since they went with a non crappy ssd. Any of them with 16gb is also good.
But that's the trap. You see these $650-830 ones and the next thing you know you're +$400 for the upgrades.

You don't need this for simple office stuff. it's ridiculously overpriced.
M2 $850 one of worst crippled value unless you get 512 ssd or 16 ram.

And no, you're 1000% wrong. I've actually used the products instead of guessing based on what I saw on the internet.
The m2's 256GB ssd is too slow for 8GB of ram. And that's a proven fact.
If you want proof, see that Apple decided to go back to the faster speed models right after the m2 sold badly and got returned a lot in the 8gb/256gb configuration.
They tried going even cheaper and trying to jack people up for upgrades.

So would you recommend M1 at Walmart or wait a month to see what kind of back to school deals are on the M3? For light use like others have described.
People like nice things, for everyone else there's chrome books or those cheap plasticky laptops
Who calls themselves IT person and not buy the right machine for the right job? 😅. This baby flies

Sorry Bob. I own an m2 mini with 8GB of ram and 256 GB SSD and it's never been a problem. Maybe you do something crazy that most people don't do.

Its nice that apple robbed you by selling you a half speed SSD and you're okay with it.
