I made the right choice.
....for another fight with the wifey!
The manner in which they handled that problem turned me forever against Onkyo (and FYI, I gave them MANY chances at retaining me as a loyal customer).
They couldn't be bothered to do the right thing. So... they are 'permanently banned' in my house & amongst my small circle of close friends.
BTW, I hope OP doesn't take my comment as me crapping on this thread... I'm just stating my own personal experience/facts & also my associated opinions surrounding those facts.
I don't wish any grief upon Onkyo or their employees. I truly hope that Onkyo has since changed their company culture on how they treat their loyal customers, especially when their is a KNOWN systemic problem affecting MANY of their (often premium-priced) products.
And one last thing... notice I just described their products as 'premium priced'.
This 'prepaid premium' is what ultimately made my decision to basically 'forever ban them' a lot easier.
You often pay a premium for a product not only because of the real (or perceived) quality... but also for the steps the company takes to 'make things better', regardless of the cost (w/in reason, obviously).
Sorry for the long post. And... good luck with your Onkyo product! : )

Reviews say the RZ70 and the RZ50 are very similar with the RZ70 just having a couple of extra features (e.g., I think 2 independent subs if I'm not mistaken)….but that the RZ70 has much improved amplifiers. I think the weight points to that! But at a $2,000 current price difference between the RZ50 at $799 and the RZ70 at $2,799….I can add an external amp (outlaw, etc…) if needed. We'll see!
Just wonder how Anorama is able to sell this so much cheaper than any other place (BB, B&H, etc…). Brings to mind the old saying…."If it sounds to good to be true…..". Just hoping this is not a grey market unit or an "open box" and that it's covered by Onkyo full warranty. Nothing on the site indicates anything other than a new unit…but the low price just makes me wonder.

1) RZ50 is quickly approaching end of life (it came out in 2021).
2) For the well-informed, there is an ASR review that exposed its undesirable protection measures for low impedance loads.
3) For those who prefer Dirac RC, it's missing Dirac BM and DLBC capability.
4) The RZ70 includes audiophile DACs, appears to have none of the issues above, and came out last year.

It is odd that if you just navigate directly to the Adorama website you don't find this $799 deal. The $1,599 price comes up instead.
Longer warranty and heavier amps etc. 3 year Warranty on RZ line.
This is a great deal on what's supposed to be a great receiver.
Do I upgrade? Damn this inflation makes spending difficult.

the RZ50 was announced in 2021 during the pandemic supply chain issues. we could not get them via our distributor (Or Onkyo directly) until Dec 2022. So it has only been widely available for 1.5 years. Normally we see new Onkyo models announced for overseas first and then they make their way to the rest of the world. No new models have been announced for overseas, so it may still be a little while before this model is replaced with a new model in the US. Only Onkyo knows that answer, so no need to speculate.
ASR is hit or miss with their information. Lots of data but it is not all meaningful data in real world usage. ALL AVRs have nannie / protection circuits to a degree. With normal power testing parameters the RZ50 surpassed the 120wpc specs by a lot (Almost 140wpc when used as intended). The nannies only came into play when testing in a manner that no one in the real world would encounter (Running a continuous low impedance load for a sustained period). Good news is the electronic nannies did their job and protected the unit and upon a restart the unit output full power again. I have installed many these for my work in HT installations with low impedance 4 ohm speakers and have heard of zero issues from my customers. So it may be a testing phenomenon seen only under torture conditions, but it is a non-factor in real world use. if that is a concern for you, then just use a 3 channel amp for the fronts or use the unit as a pre/pro only.
Which Dirac you end up with be would be determined by the user, their needs and budget. The good news is that even the plain basic full bandwidth Dirac Live that is standard on the RZ50 gives great results. Many people will not have needs beyond this.
As far as the RZ70 goes it is a great model but I have not seen any of my customers cross shop models due to the price difference. the difference in street price is $2,000 ($799 for an RZ50 and $2799 for an RZ70). the latter can be even more when adding Dirac modules..

I think it's unfair to say $799 is the "street price" for the RZ50 (it's probably more like $1000-$1300 range on any given day). $799 is a "blink and you'll miss it" price!
You're right that you have to pick and choose what's important to you from ASR: I choose to believe the RZ50 amp would compromise my Martin Logan setup but ignored the "low SINAD" and "don't recommend" from Amir for the Denon 3800. Everyone should decide what's important for them!

I had one issue when it was new where it kept forgetting my settings, and I had to do 3-4 resets of the AVR within 1 week. Since then it's been perfect.
