Always come to the Shield threads with popcorn in-hand...

The things I can do with my Shields that firesticks and apple BS can't have paid for itself 10x over.

I'm a simple man, 4k x265 8 & 10-bit is good enough for me.

The device has no competition in some use cases. It's a powerful little device

Man I just bought one from Amazon 5 days ago and got done setting it up yesterday. Too much of a hassle to return/rebuy. I spoke to a representative and said they couldn't price match the prime day sale, but said that they'd give me a $25 promo on my account for the inconvenience.

But I did just make another order and I did not see that credit...

sounds like the rep didn't apply the credit. I had a similar situation occur and every rep I spoke to said that the previous one did not apply it and that they would. It took me 5-6 reps before I got the credit actually applied on the spot vs the BS "Wait 2-48 hours" script they always read out.

Man, that sucks! Guess I'll have to start hassling the support agents until I see the credit.

I miss the old Amazon, that would just give away money for the slightest inconvenience.

Is this worth it for playing 4k bluray rips on tv and hosting a Plex server for my other devices? Is it inferior to playing 4k discs directly?

Probably Apple 4k unless you need certain lossless features

Verify if your IPTV stuff works on the Apple platform, if it does, no brainer pick would be that. Cheaper and newer.

Among the best for supporting various codecs and pass through so enthusiasts like them. But it's holding this price for being something this old is quite crazy.

That's funny, whenever people mention the Shield, Plex is inevitably mentioned over and over. If people aren't ripping their own content or streaming pirated material, why is Plex so popular on the Shield.

Yes for best picture get an AM6+. That's not getting personal, that's the truth.

Don't care about that, save money and buy an s905x4 for $75 with all the ATV DRM. The first s905x5 boxes will be hitting the market this fall. The new processor offers better power management and CPU performance than the Tegra x1.
break it down for those of us that have not been as deep in this stuff

so I buy the am6+ box for $200, then flash CoreElect to use as the OS instead of Android? Now I have a dedicated Kodi box that can do nothing else but Kodi? I used to use kodi a decade ago but the UI sucked and every add-on eventually was abandoned and sources stopped working, it was a PITA. Now I just use fireTV and have Stremio, Plex, etc installed. Once I found stremio, all the apps like cinema, cyberflix, etc were no longer needed. Why would I want to install CoreElec as the OS for this instead of keeping android with Stremio? For me the fireTV setup works well with stremio and realdebrid but big 4k streams it has issues with so I'm looking for a beefier processor and better wifi antenas

Still have the Tube as my alternate streaming stick, (main is a Roku Ultra for ease of use for my wife/kids). It's laggy as hell and really only serves for movie/tv show/sports upscaling and as a separate device hooked into the 5.1 surround for the family room. Most of the time we use the TV speakers but I wanted a different device specifically for the receiver. It was fine just wish it was snappier.

I bought one in 2017. Is it worth the upgrade? I used it for Gamestream which sadly they axed (no idea why). Fortunately Moonlight works.
