These need 24/7 power. They screw in to a lamp socket. I placed my cams on a seldom used outside light (We never turn it on for a flood light anyway and the motion detection activates a fairly dim light from the carera anyway while recording the image.). You will want to find a outdoor outlet in a vertical position, so the remote pan and tilt makes sense to the user, Also I have the sensitivity set to low, Motion activated, and motion follow. I have notifications sent when motion is activated. It is quite bussy. I get lots of alerts. I was able to log in to my cameras outside of the home.
The motion follow will follow the subject all the way to one edge or the other and just stay there (340 degrees of motion). I wish it would go back to a preset place after a min or two to recenter itself. It is nice it follows, but I have to figure out how to make it recenter itself or turn off motion follow all togeter.
For indor use you can use any old table lamp, just do not have the shade on the lamp. It is not really stealthy either. It came with a extender and a adpter to screw it in adapter so you can plug it on to a power strip or any standerd wall plug.
These can be screwed in to any old lamp socket so you have a lot of flexibility. They do of course use wifi, so there is that added traffic on the network.
Being only screwed in to the socket means they are easily stolen and defeated.
The picture is not as good as I hoped for either, but again for the price of a Subway, you got something to record the deer in the garden, bear or racoon on the porch or the delivery guy.
For $14 I have no complaints, but I have also never played with this stuff either enough to know what I am missing. I just have one cam looking over the pool and one cam looking at the garage door. Resolution could be a issue for some. You will see the time motion is activated , but dont expect to see the footage on a youtube vid. Also the audio useless..
My fire tv can show me what the camera is seeing, but I can not contorl it. That requires the app , but if you have motion detect/activation on, it should be pointing at the last kown location of the activated motion. I could not get the microphone to camera to work but there is a siren funtion that was amusing. When the firetv is showing me the camera feed, there is a button to activate the microphone to camera audio link, but I could not get that going either..
I ordederd the $15 fire tab the other day in hopes of it being a dedicated camera monitor.. The app has a 2 cam, 4 cam or more at once options to monitor a lot of cams, but I would think that would be a pretty bussy network via wifi for more thn 2 cams, but again I dont know. Also hear wifi jammers are the tool of choice for burglers so .......
I would think it should work as a babby monitor too.

how high should you mount it to deter theft and still get good visual coverage? It would be cool if they had reply options on the app, like different barking dog noises that you could press to scare away critters from roof, fruit trees etc. because wouldn't it be alarming for neighbors to hear alarm noises instead?

They do not rotate fully 360° more like 330° & have a huge blind spot directly below/above the camera.
the motion detection is useless, after following a subject the camera won't recenter/ go back to the preset angle. making motion tracking USELESS.
They have a "human detection push notification" feature but it is flawed. only 1 of the 3 cameras settings had a neat custom window zone for the human detection area, BUT i still get notified of people walking outside my custom zone/off my property.
interestingly that same 1 with the extra setting feature came with a 3" socket extension while the other 2 had different packaging.
these require a bulb socket so they can be unscrewed VERY EASILY, and if someone shuts off the switch... no power.
the subscription price is too hugh and better off going with a wired cctv system.
I ended up switching to free-standing wifi outdoor solar powered security cameras.
Using an extension cord with it to set up is a little easier, since you have to press a button on it while it's plugged in into the outlet .
