Have both P7 and P8. Yes, the P8 is slightly more comfortable... has HDMI output (finally)... and longer software support.

Still, unless I absolutely needed HDMI output, I wouldn't upgrade. And if I needed that, I wouldn't have bought a P7 in the first place.

There's no way the low-RAM version of Gemini on the standard P8 is worth the upgrade. It literally does nothing worth that today.

Not sure if this will help you. My fingerprint sensor on the Pixel 7a was pretty bad too. I saw a recommendation online, to add a few fingerprints, but to just use the same finger for all of them. Maybe try that. It's made my fingerprint scanner much more reliable.

I remember a few years ago, people could upgrade from a Pixel 6 to Pixel 7 for $20. that was a steal. too bad they dont have such an offer anymore

It's just the discount off of the retailed price. Right now they are 499 instead of 699 for the pixel 8.

I was able to trade in a Pixel 6 128GB for $220.00 trade in. I did the transfer in store and paid $304.49 for the Pixel 8 1288GB Out the door.

Did they let you transfer all the data from your phone to new pixel phone within the store?

Yes I had a cable, but they also offered me one. They helped me with the process. Just a heads up, a lot of apps did not retain logins and passwords, So write them down before you transfer over. It took me around an hour to recover all the account logins and passwords using my home PC and Google passwords page. All apps moved over and all contacts and messages. All apps were working properly once I added back the username and passwords.

Watch out if you have Ping ID. You need to copy the app over to the new phone, then authenticate from the old phone to add the new phone.

Last we moved the SIM over, wiped the old phone and handed it over to the Best Buy tech. Spent about 40 minutes in the store.

Traded in my 2 year old pixel 7 for the 8 pro. Total was 420 after taxes. 600 of list was worth it to me. The 9 doesn't look to be a massive upgrade and my battery life on the 7 was horrid. Plus I wanted the bigger screen. So far im liking the new phone. This should keep me happy until the pixel 10 comes out, which supposedly is a major upgrade

Finally pulled the trigger. I traded my iphone 12 mini for $415 (300 bonus + 115 TIV). I received the refund the same day for a total of $443.12. Total amount I paid for p8 was $102 including tax. I think it was pretty good deal.

13 mini is still jailbroken on iOS 15.0, starting to lose app compatabilty. I have no use for iPhone without jailbreak.

I took the bait for $350 for a TMobile Galaxy S22 256GB towards a Pixel 8 256GB. I don't get the $100 connection discount because TMobile isn't an option, so the total with CA tax was $260 (plus, hopefully, 8% CB). I still went for it.

From what I've read, this is most likely a side grade functionality wise, with the chance its a downgrade (worse finger print reader and 5g modem). However, my Galaxy S22 :
1) battery is just too small to get me through a medium usage day
2) will lose support soon, and has a locked bootloader with no good option to load alternative OSs
3) doesn't have any great trade in options above $300 for lower priced phones (except at TMobile but then I'm locked into a 2 year contract to get my "free" locked TMobile Pixel 8.) More importantly TMobile has no Pixels with 256GB which is a deal breaker for me (I store 50+GB of offline personal music)

Definitely will wait to see what the Aug 13th event has for new Pixels (and more importantly, new TIV options), but I suspect the Pixel 9's will not prove to be much of an upgrade outside of AI software.
