Legion Go has a better-looking screen and more immersive since the size is 8.8in vs 7in. This comes out to be approximately 66% larger screen area on the Legion Go vs the Ally. Legion Go feels like you're looking at a small tablet screen vs a phone screen. Using the Legion for windows is usable where it's harder to use windows on the Ally.
Coincidentally, the Ally is much more portable than the Legion Go (Shocking right)
The Legion Go has a quieter fan vs the Ally. Also, the Ally gets warmer feeling especially on the screen.
Ally has a better, more streamlined software experience. Legion go software has some quirks, but the software is leagues ahead of it when it first launched and nice to use now.
The buttons on the Ally are a little better feeling but the joy sticks on the Legion Go feel better.
The speakers (if you use integrated speakers) are much better on the Ally vs the Legion Go. Ally speakers sound like a laptop speaker and the Legion Go sound like a tablet speaker. I use Bluetooth headphones mostly on both devices.
The kickstand on the Legion Go is a great addition, use it almost every time I use the device, had to get a case for the Ally with a kickstand but it's still not as nice.
I like the IO of the Legion Go more than the Ally. Two USB ports is better than the one on the Ally and Asus ROG XG Mobile Interface on the Ally that isn't really compatible with anything other than Asus Ecosystem.
Although all companies can be sketchy, I think Asus is a bit more scandalous to consumers. Seems like they have a track record of leaving some consumers high and dry with warranty repairs and such. I don't have any direct comparison with this but only the perception online.

IMO most generally lean towards the ally with it's smaller body and screen supporting variable refresh. That said, people who have the Legion Go love it so I'm not helping much lol

The Legion Go's screen is not VRR which makes a big difference in how smooth games are perceived. It's especially important on a handheld where it may be difficult to maintain stable frame rates. The Ally's VRR kicks on between 48 and 120 fps. The Legion Go's screen also operates at 60Hz or 144Hz whereas the Ally is 60Hz or 120Hz. The latter is better because it allows common game frame rate settings to easily run at locked 30fps, 40fps, or 60fps and evenly divide the screen refresh rate. It also natively supports GeForce Now's 120Hz refresh rate.
The Legion Go's screen is also a portrait display which in some games can cause the game window to be incorrectly sized / rotated. These sorts of issues on top of the fact that Ally's software is also just better / more polished than Legion's.
Regarding the controllers: good in theory but too tricky to detach / reattach in practice and sometimes doing so could cause the controllers to no longer be recognized (required a reset).
There were a lot of things I liked about the Go: the fact it had a trackpad, the big high resolution screen, and the kickstand especially, but the actual experience of using it fell far short of its promise.

Made sure it was a Z1E (I've heard some people swap for the Z1E and return a Z1).
Battery health was at 98%.
512GB SSD.
All buttons and joysticks work.
Charger included in plastic wrap.
Included a screen protector which was probably installed by the previous owner.
There were some dark dirt/grime marks around where your hands grip but other than that nothing was wrong with it. I will just use a magic eraser to take that off later. Overall I am happy with it and will test it out extensively before the return window.
