Incredible deal for one of the best x86 handhelds out now. Yes there is a newer version which significantly improves battery life and only slightly improves performance. This first gen model is still very capable.

Paid $400 for my fair condition last year. I use it more than my console. So far it's handled Howgarts legacy, Ghosts of Tshima, spiderman remaster and miles morales all on high settings. It's indeed capable but make sure an outlet or powerbank is around cause it gives me about 45 mins on battery alone. Power source also enables higher gaming performance.

I have legion go and I see the benefit of having a larger and better screen but your arms get really tired after playing for 30 mins.

Really want to pull the trigger at this price but the 7inch screen is so tiny for certain games (e.g. WoW, CoD, CS, etc.). If that's not a concern for you, def run and grab one.
How do you play WoW without a keyboard?

There is a add on, Consoleport that allows you to play wow with the controller and occasionally the touchscreen needed

When a brand new switch with a guesstimated price of $400 is right around the corner, paying this much for old hardware seems meh to me....
Pc fanboys downvoted you when you're right. Even if the switch has less performance it will have optimized games, won't be loud, a better screen and. more portable.

Is it just me or does anyone else see it as a concern that new versions of handhelds are coming out every 2 years or less? If you get it in the first year you're paying 500+ and if wait longer the conversations turns into, "the new own will be here next year."
Not really. It's like people talking about the performance of a 4090, and now a 5090.

Anyone here spending $2k on a GPU?

I don't and I don't see the value on being on the cutting edge. The new slate of Z2 Extreme handhelds will almost certainly be very costly compared to this. Even the SteamDeck is $100 more than this, with less performance (albeit with OLED screen).

It's not like your device stops working, and that's the beauty of PC gaming. You can tune down settings to get desired performance, and you're not forced to upgrade to current generation consoles for instance.

TBF you're paying that back in terms of locked hardware, only games Nintendo deems you're worthy of getting, paying for online play and cloud storage, and so on.

Everything has a pro/cons. Pick your poison.

Not to mention rumors of much easier porting for this generation and possible upscaling for triple AAA titles…this switch could potentially topple the handheld market by offering all the benefit of pc handhelds with the benefit of the Nintendo ecosystem

I went to look at a few in stock at a local store. Physical condition was decent, mostly cosmetic scuffs that might come off with scrubbing. I didn't notice any actual damage to the housing.
I ultimately decided to not pull the trigger because the label with the serial number looked tampered with and the charger wasn't included.
YMMV

Just wanted to share that you can get the ROG Ally on DoorDash for the same price of $450. If you purchase five $100 gift cards from Costco (at $80 each) and combine them with the Valentine's Day promotion of $20 off, you could get the Ally at 20% off—even after factoring in all DoorDash fees and tips.
I live in Seattle and paid $499, including fees and tips (though I do have a DashPass, so lesser fees), bringing the total to $400 after the gift card discount. I would have paid $495 if I had bought it directly from Best Buy
