It has the same screen brightness (500 nits) as the last 3 ipad generations. I think they are plenty bright. Most of the time I set my mini to max 3/4 brightness and it's still kinda overwhelming how bright it gets
I've really been enjoying my mini so far; took advantage of this same deal two weeks ago to get a 256gb one. However, I am curious about the (now available) Legion Tab 3[lenovo.com]. iPads have the better tablet app ecosystem, the Legion has the better screen, decisions decisions.
In either case, if you aren't trying to have a laptop replacement, I think the mini is the best iPad you can get. Great for basic browsing, reading, games, lounging around, and taking with you a surprising amount of places.

I'm not sure about the "app ecosystem" part... Both Samsung and Google make tablets that allow certain apps to go into full-screen mode, and there are certain features exclusive to both iPadOS and Android tabs that make it more of a wash. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the Legion Tab also has that same feature but it is a unique concept for gaming.

OMG .. so am I. Someone on a YT comment suggested the Tab 3 and I was thinking it had to be China OS but it's actually made for U.S. market. It was in stock a few days ago but is sold out now. $500 is a lot and no SD card, but finally an 8" Android flagship tablet. I also took advantage of the $400 Mini from Amazon during the holidays and haven't opened it yet. It's outside of my return period. The Tab 3 doesn't have OLED, but the screen seems good enough. The Mini is the best small tablet until this Tab 3 launched. Now there is a debate! Android is so much better for emulation but the tiebreaker is whatever suites the user's needs.

I know but 500 nits is weak for you? That's nuts. You must have had LED lights all over the place.
