plus the cost of an AM5 board and DDR5 memory, though
I'm in the same boat with my 5600x and as far as I can tell, no. But it also may depend on other factors like GPU, my 3070 Ti gets maxed out by more graphics-intense games like Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate, while the CPU usage sits around 50%-60%
Realistically there will be minimal gains. Unless you have another system to put your old CPU in I wouldn't upgrade for that.

Just get the 5800XT at $130. If power draw / thermals are a concern, go into the BIOS and put it in ECO mode which should be about 65W.

I just ran back-to-back Cinebench R23 runs on normal and ECO settings with a brand-new 5800XT build.

Non-ECO: 15278 multi-core / 1630 single-core
ECO mode: 14276 multi-core / 1627 single-core

I personally wouldn't recommend the cooler that comes with the 5800XT but it would maybe get you by in ECO mode. It just seems silly to get the 5700X for almost the same price.

-Any reason to get this vs the 5800XT on sale for the same price?-
seems this has been answered.

Is it different from this one at Microcenter? Amazon seems short on the full spec details.

Does eco mode really push it similar to the 5700X? Is the only different the 65 vs 105w TDP and stock clocks?

So eco just limits the TDP and adjusts clock speeds?

According to the results on cpu-monkey, the 5700X gets 14239 multi-core and 1532 single-core in Cinebench R23. So the 5800XT in ECO mode is technically better than the 5700X in standard mode, especially in single-core performance.

As to how exactly AMD achieves this wizardry, there are quite a few resources that explain it. I've used the ECO mode extensively on the 5900X series in particular to cut down power usage substantially without sacrificing much in the way of performance.

Interesting! Was debating getting a 5700x instead at $105 at MC but will stick with this and play around with ECO/undervolt

This is the same one. Now I wonder if there is more of a reason to go for the 5700X for around $25 discount. Guess depends on your budget.

Remember that 5800xt comes with wraith prism which is a decent cooler.

Might be binned higher if you want to push it further.

Better than the price displayed on the main page...
$1,298.25 seems a bit steep!
