Luck of the draw, really. Just return it if it's got dead pixels.

Considering this but I'm not sure how I'd handle the 32:9

Yes, it is. There's an extra 30% off that they're running on many Amazon Resale items listed right on the item page, that will be reflected in the cart and when you check out. That's true for most of the things you'll see posted here from Amazon Resale this week.

I was curious about this too. This is from the Rtings review

The LG 49GR85DC-B is decent for office use. Its large 49-inch screen and 32:9 aspect ratio make it easy to multitask with multiple windows open, as there's plenty of screen real estate. It also gets bright enough to fight glare in a well-lit office space and has good reflection handling. However, it has some limitations because its narrow viewing angles make the image look washed out at the sides if you sit too close. It also has trouble rendering text clearly, as most text looks blurry.

Don't have this, but do have the alienware 3821 for work. Tbh, even 38" is too wide for me. There's one specific use case about 2-3x a month where I need to be monitoring 4-5 pages/screens at once but otherwise, I use only half the screen 90% of the time. I can't visually take in or pay attention to the entire screen all the time unless I sit 5-6' back instead of 2-3' at my desk. At that point, I may as well commit and be watching TV. I do find the extra real estate helpful for troubleshooting my spreadsheets, but it's not that critical to have 38". 32" would be perfectly fine or even smaller. LG likes a more aggressive curve though, so maybe you won't have my field of view issues w/ their monitors as much, but I think 45" is too much.
