Is this saw good, I was told the 7 1/4 is better. I only do diys at home

It's lacking in power and can just barely handle a 2x4s with a fresh blade. A diablo blade would help. Ultimately it is fine for 2x4s on small projects, or sheet goods, 1xs, etc, but if you have used a corded 7 1/4" saw this is going to feel very weak in comparison.
If I was you, and I was mainly working at home, I'd get a cheap corded circular saw and jig saw. You have the luxury of having outlets to plug into and they will last longer, perform better, be cheaper, etc. The only reason cordless is so popular is because of marketing, and convenience.
Job sites used to be filled with 20 million extension cords and generators everywhere. Cordless has tripled the price of tools, made them less durable, created a whole new category of sales: batteries, and generally isn't anywhere near as strong as corded tools in the same price category. But they are super convenient and some cordless tools are much stronger than corded since they've put waaaay more R&D into cordless in the last decade...
TLDR; 1xs and smaller this saw is fine. 2x4s it can get away with, and 2x6s+ will make you wish you had a real circular saw.

I'd like the freedom of carrying the tools around without worrying about tripping myself or the circuit breaker (while using shop vac)😏
But I agree, the battery market is huge thx for the marketing trend
