DH is a tool man, he has them all, carpentry is a specialty. He's had this one for a few years now & this has to be the only tool he regularly comments about & sings its praises.

Got this Black Friday and I like that it changes blades with a simple press. Probably the fastest blade change among the other power tool manufacturers. You need a strong man press though, so for those with limp hands and weak grips you can probably step on the lever. Coverlaugh

Dumb question - what can I do with it around the house? What's it used for?
Lots of good replies so far, I will add I like it for cutting into a flat surface without pre drilling a hole. Got a new dishwasher and it has a huge lump in the water cable. Used this to cut through the inside of the cabinet without drilling then using recip saw or hacksaw blade. Also works great on grout with the harbor freight diamond blades.

Good information about the amount of pressure necessary to release/install the blade. I picked this same tool up 11 months ago and found that using leather gloves for blade changes is helpful. It helps by providing a little bit more leverage and also in providing padding for the inside of your hands and fingers. The insides of my hands and fingers are prone to bruising from pressure more so than the average human, so I end up protecting them where possible.

I do like my XR it has been more useful than I thought, but the downside to all these oscillating tools are the blades, they don't last very long

I found that I'd take my old blades and I put the grinder to them and make a nice flat edge out of them. And then I can use them for scraping floors or pulling up tile.
Getting old c*** out of tubs and toilets sinks and stuff. And when they get there, you just take the grinder to them again.

They're not meant to be, in general. Cutting into drywall and the like should last you a while. Cutting into woods, especially hard woods, will dull it out quickly. Get a multi-pack and keep them on hand.

You are not going to get a better deal on this. Black friday, the bare tool was $75. This is the XR one with battery, charger, and bag. I have several and well worth it.
Well Lowes tells me I bought this exact kit in Jan for $79, so just a bit of inflation I guess. Will vouch for the fact that this is a very useful tool though.

My favorite tool. There are many blades available (wood, metal, multi-material, drywall), sanders (triangular, orbital with hook & loop), scrapers (rigid, flexible for paint/grout/adhesive), carbide burrs/grinders for grout removal and aggressive material shaping.

Some after market blades last longer. Also, use the correct blade for the task, like carbide blades for plaster/drywall, etc.

I don't recall seeing the bare tool for that low (otherwise I would have already purchased it). Where was this at? I can't find it via search on SD. Thanks.

This 20V MAX* XR® 3-Speed Cordless Oscillating Multi-Tool Kit provides up to 57% more runtime than similar brushed tools because of its powerful brushless motor. The Quick-Change™ accessory system allows you to change blades quickly and easily, and with the universal accessory adaptor, it's compatible with most oscillating tool accessories. The DUAL-GRIP™ variable-speed trigger and 3-speed selector provide ultimate speed and application control, and the bright LED illuminates dark workspaces. This kit includes a universal accessory adaptor, two blades, battery, charger, and kit bag.
