This game is oddly polarizing. I hated it, but I finished it. There are some great looking scenes but I found gameplay boring and the characters flat and annoying. The story had potential but never really worked. I used this to hold me over until other games came out. This is nothing like ff7 remake/rebirth (which I love.)

I also hated this game. The protagonist is god awful boring. There's zero classic final fantasy stuff in this.

Since I've beaten every single other final fantasy (minus 11 and 14) I managed to force myself to one of the big "events" and... stopped.

If you are like me and want some classic final fantasy, with modern quality of life improvements and graphics, you HAVE to check out expedition 33. It's my favorite game of all time, and I've been gaming for 40 years now.

This game in the cutscenes looks like a cinematic masterpiece for a video game. Your side quests and running around in between, once you find your combination of button mashing that you like it is repetitive over and over. As long as you're in it for the story, it's a beautifully crafted video game with an amazing story with some amazing cinematography genius.... But as for the depth of gameplay it is severely lacking. Is it worth $20? Yes I think so.

Game is perfectly fine at this price point. I'm guessing people trashing on it paid close to retail price for it. I probably would have been more critical of it had I paid anything over $30 for it, but definitely worth a play through at this sale price if you're a fan of Final Fantasy games.

+1 for hated it. Presentation is a 11/10, Square Enix went all out on that but almost everything else is 4/10.

Combat is basic attack, spam skills, repeat. Equipment is pointless in its just stat sticks, side quests are awful. FF16 is final fantasy is in name only.

The demo was really good, which hooked me. But it quickly became boring for me as well.

Play Expedition 33 instead. This is a poor emulation of Devil May Cry wrapped in Final Fantasy Aesthetics. I wasn't expecting much, and forcing myself 20 hours in...i never finished.

Liked the story and characters. Dreaded the actual gameplay, felt like zero depth and completely repetitive.

I thought the story line was actually good, but the combat system is way too repetitive and doesnt take any strategy. The acting also felt very dull which made the characters very dull. The art, cinema, and story line was good, but everything else was just meh.
