Excellent price for a good WiFi controlled smart plug + this is model KP115 which has energy monitoring wattage use through app...good for solar or battery powered devices.
Copy/Paste:
Choose the KP115 (15amp) if you want to track energy usage, need Sense monitor integration, or want a more feature-rich device.
Choose the HS103 (12amp) for budget-friendly, simple, on/off control of lamps or small appliances.

I put a portable tower heater on a generic smart switch and it killed the switch. Will Kasa switches support sustained power to a tower heater?

2 pack of the TP-Link Tapo is slightly cheaper per unit at $8.03 and supports Matter
https://www.amazon.com/Monitoring...B0D7FQ93QN
The table on that page lists the P115 that you linked as not compatible w/ Matter. This 3 pack of P125M for $25 ($8.33/each) does though: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BXMNJDW3

What's the difference between the one posted and this 4 pack (KP125M)I bought last year? I need more

https://a.co/d/aIBrKyQ
The KP125M has Matter support and energy monitoring (I have a few of these). The one posted does not support Matter, but has energy monitoring. Also this two pack of KP125M is slightly cheaper at $11/plug vs $12.50/plug in the 4 pack: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYGRLRS1

This one does have Matter support yes, but does not have energy monitoring.

I have purchased this model as a four-pack twice. Just pay attention to what you are buying
I don't find it that easy. I have scoured this web page and still can't tell if this is the same device x 4 or a lesser device.

Thank you for that info and for the link to the cheaper 2 pack, I only need a couple at the moment so this is perfect.

Is it for one? Or for a pack of 2, or 4? If this price is for 1 I don't see any deal here.

I've used these for exactly that with a virtual thermostat in Home Assistant. I have killed them, but the ones that died were good for a few winters at least. Most haven't died. I think it's specifically the frequent switching at high amps that hurts their lifetime. If you use your heaters at mid-power rather than the full 1500W or so you should be fine.
At this point I've mostly retired these from that use case though in favor of space heaters with thermostats. They run like $20-30 and literally pay for themselves in like a week of usage, at least in my area.

I used to have these but have slowly moved away from them into the Matter version, Homebridge works but it's just better if you don't have to do that.

I thought that these only worked via their app/servers, are you saying the control and monitoring features can be made completely local? Thought you needed something like matter/z-wave/zigbee device to have a completely local solution. Thanks!
The original Kasa line of devices (plugs, wall switches, bulbs, etc. of which the KP115 is part of) all use the same rather trivial local API for access. It's what Home Assistant uses and is 100% local control. Even the Kasa app works fine locally only, so long as your cell phone or tablet is on the same local LAN.

But even when used locally, the devices are still very chatty with their cloud servers. So if that lack of privacy is a concern, they can be blocked from that access without issue. The VLAN technique mentioned in the previous post is one method, but that would tend to break other local access as well (such as using the Kasa app). I personally use my router's firewall capability to block a range of IPs from internet access, and have all my Kasa devices assigned to reserved IPs in that range. The firewall option I use is also smart enough to allow pass-thru for Time Server access, so the Kasa device clocks remain accurate (needed for local schedules to work) even though they can't "phone home" to TP-Link cloud severs.

The local API was my main reason for adopting the original Kasa ecosystem back in 2020, and I now have 48 devices, all happily and reliably working 100% local only. I also have numerous applications of local control outside of Home Assistant using the python API library. It's very easy to use with even just a basic knowledge of python programing. For example, I have a shortcut on my Windows desktop to toggle the state of my room light cuz I'm too lazy to get up and hit the Kasa wall switch, and it's faster than opening a Home Assistant window, or the Kasa app on my phone.

For those just starting out, going with something more modern like Matter probably makes sense, but for those already invested in this ecosystem, there's no real reason to change. These devices should work "forever" even if Kasa should eventually discontinue them and shut down their cloud servers (unlikely) as they work just fine locally-only.

Finally, I know people always tout Matter's local control as a selling point, but I believe the Kasa Matter devices are still cloud-connected, so they would still have the same privacy concerns. But someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that point.

I think you need to find out how much watts AND amps are being drawn. These plugs are designed for 1800w and 15amps. If what your connecting draws more then that and it kills one of these, that's not the plugs fault. I can't speak to whatever plug you used before, my only other experience is Amazon Alexa plugs and those were same as well as far as power safety net goes.

After Wemo threw in the towel, I don't buy devices that aren't Matter anymore. Ever.

all of my old Kasa smart plugs currently work with Alexa and Google home.

Why does Matter matter?

Matter will still work if your internet goes out (i.e. local access) but your wifi still works. It is also the future protocol where multiple companies have agreed to support versus relying on their own design so they can better work together.
