This 100 inch Hisense U8 is framed as a bright, high end big screen with strong contrast, accurate color, and better motion and processing than the lower series models. The 2023 version is repeatedly treated as the stronger buy versus newer Hisense revisions, with praise for its picture and local dimming. The main cautions are Hisense quirks, including firmware, board, E ARC, and CEC issues, plus reports that the picture can fall apart when room lights are on. It looks best suited to a dark room and a shopper who wants a huge TV without chasing the newest model.
people buying a 100" TV right now who want to jump from a smaller Hisense tier (like choosing this over a U7 after seeing the price) because they can get it delivered for a strong price (e.g., $1799.99 plus tax with free delivery) and are ready to pull the trigger without waiting for another sale.
buyers comparing Hisense U8 vs other 100" options who care about brightness, local dimming, and motion/processing advantages because commenters expect the U8 (8-series) to be brighter with more dimming zones and better processing/motion handling than lower-series models, even if they note model-year differences.
people who aren't comfortable comparing TV specs and just want to be confident they're getting the right model because commenters said they couldn't figure out the spec differences between this U8 and a different Hisense 100" QD7 listing.
buyers who want the brightest possible 100" experience for the money because one commenter argued the TCL 98QM7 is brighter (citing ~3000 nits vs ~1500 nits) and suggested waiting since the Hisense has more reported issues.
people using a 100" TV in a room where lighting changes (or they turn on lights) because one commenter reported that even in a dark room, turning on lights made the picture quality degrade dramatically.
buyers who are sensitive to "quirky" HDMI/ARC behavior and picture-processing oddities because an owner said to expect sporadic E-ARC/CEC control issues and some picture processing issues on the newer U8 generation.
The U8 is the higher Hisense tier above the QD7, so it should be brighter, have more local dimming zones, and better processing and motion handling. The 2024 U8N is a bigger upgrade over this 2023 model than the QD7 is, with higher peak brightness, more dimming zones, improved gaming, and better anti-glare.
It can struggle in bright spaces: the picture degrades noticeably when lights are on, and projector-style alternatives are also noted as poor in rooms with lots of windows. It is better suited to controlled-light or dark-room viewing.
A TCL 98QM7 has reportedly dropped under $2,000 and is cited as brighter at about 3,000 nits versus roughly 1,500 nits on this Hisense. The Hisense is still described as the better picture-quality set, but the TCL is presented as the stronger value if you can wait.
It can have quirky Hisense behavior, including sporadic E-ARC and CEC control, and some reports mention firmware or board issues. Banding is said to be improved versus older U8 models, but processing issues can still show up.
Yes, it was reported at $1,799.99 plus tax with free delivery at a local Best Buy, which is below the $1,949.99 thread price. That suggests local pricing or price matching may bring it down.

This deal was already posted. Its an ok deal. If you need a tv right now then go for it. However, if you wait, you can get a better tv for less. The TCL 98QM7 has been under $2K a couple of times in the past couple of months and it has 3000 nits vs 1500 nits on this Hisense. The Hisense have more reported issues. I'm going to wait.

and I can't really figure out the difference. Does someone up on tech know the difference?
The U8 pictured above should be the superior tv of the two as the 8 series in Hisense lineup is above the 7 series tv's. However the one here is a year older than the QD7. I haven't compared the two personally but the U8 should be brighter, have more dimming zones, better processing and motion handling than the QD7. Again, this U8 is a year older than the QD7 so I'd imagine the QD7 to be a lot closer to the U8 since it's a year newer and has newer tech in it.

I just noticed that i compared it to the 2024 version... not the 2023 version which is being sold.
The 2024 Hisense U8 Series (U8N) offers a massive upgrade over the 2023 model (U8K), featuring significantly higher peak brightness (up to 3,000+ nits vs. ~1,500–2,000 nits)
and double the local dimming zones for improved contrast. The 2024 models also feature superior gaming (up to 165Hz/144Hz), better AI picture processing, and an improved anti-glare screen

Speaking from my ownership of the Hisense U8H and U8N...the step up is not " massive"
The "N" is a better set...but there is still some picture processing issues in the "N"
I will say Hisese has gotten a lot better with banding though since the " H" version of the u8
But still expect some quirky Hisense issues..E-arc and CEC control can work sporadically
Just bought this model last night with free delivery at my local BB here in Summerlin. Las Vegas, NV for $1799.99 plus tax. Looking forward to it since I was originally going to buy the U7 model and have it priced matched to Walmart at $1999.99 Thankfully I saw this deal instead!

The Hisense U8 line is expected to deliver stronger contrast and contrast handling than lower Hisense series models.
The 2024 U8N is described as having higher peak brightness and more local dimming zones than the 2023 U8 model.
The deal has been reported as coming with free delivery from a local Best Buy location at $1799.99 plus tax.
A spec comparison suggests the TCL 98QM7 can offer better value while still delivering strong gaming features like 144Hz and VRR.
The Hisense U8 model being sold is hard to compare against a similarly named Hisense 100-inch QD7 because spec differences are unclear.
Real-world picture quality can degrade dramatically when room lights are turned on, even in a dark room.
E-ARC and CEC control can behave sporadically on the Hisense U8 models.
The deal is characterized as only OK, with a suggestion to wait for a brighter TCL option under $2K.

Projector's are great for dark rooms like basements but not so great in a room with lots of windows with natural light.
