Haha, the actual use I see most often is gang-cutting large structural members like floor joists. Imagine you were building the floor of a house. If it's a big house, you might need 10" or 12" wide joists to support the weight of a floor across as long a span as you might have. A big house will also need lots of joists because you have a big surface area to cover. You may have 20-30 joists exactly the same length. Rather than cutting them one by one, it's waaaaaay easier to use a chainsaw to cut across the whole stack of them!
