Barring some kind of major fire sale when the next generation of AVRs releases, this is probably the price floor on this receiver. Yeah, there was the $449 "deal", but none of those ever shipped. If you want 9 channels and Atmos, and don't care about preouts, this is your cheapest option.

edit: perhaps black Friday will beat this price...

No, people will use separate amps for their speakers as well. Pre out signal to amplifier and then out to the speakers.

If you're looking for a new receiver, it'll be hard to find a better price right now. I had a TX-NR6050 receiver, which is a slight step below this, but I really liked the receiver. Only problem I had was, the firmware became corrupted at some point (6-7 months) and I was locked out of making any feature changes. It wasn't from an update, and it seems like failure of the circuit board but Onkyo didn't offer any real support. I had to return it back to Costco. I was lucky it was from Costco so the return was easy.

However, I'd probably recommend some kind of extended warranty if purchasing from Adorama given I wasn't alone with problems from Onkyo receivers of this generation. I eventually replaced it with a refurbished Denon AVR-S760H and that's been going on 2 years without any hiccups.

This is the one to buy. Eight years strong. The real bonus of this is the ability to have TWO passive channels. Plus the main powered one.
Especially great for outdoor music management.
** being able to have two separate pairs of speakers be powered while the main unit in standby is super great.

Keep in mind it does not offer Dirac's subwoofer/bass room correction(Bass Control).
The 2 sub outs are parallel/mono signal also.

Highly recommend you look into A1EVO Express, it's a game changer for Audyssey room correction.
It gives you comparable Dirac Live performance that this includes for free!

I want to point out that you are talking about pre-outs for surround sound. I only need one pre-out for my sub. So this is perfect for me!

There are 2 pre-outs for subs.
