The Onkyo TX NR7100 is a 9 channel AV receiver that stands out mainly for Dirac Live at $599, making it one of the cheapest ways to get Dirac in an AVR. It is also praised for solid everyday performance, easy setup, and long term reliability, with reports of years of use and no overheating when ventilation is adequate. The main drawbacks are the lack of pre outs, parallel sub outs, and only basic AccuEQ if Dirac is not used. It also may not be the best match for demanding 3 to 4 ohm speakers at loud levels. A strong value pick if Dirac is the priority.

We will probably see this pop-up off and on until the new models come out next year.
If you're after Dirac Live, this is least expensive option right now.

I haven't been keeping up with the AV world. Is it worth waiting for next year's models? Currently using my 7.2 but I wouldn't mind a better Atmos setup

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Dirac onboard at no extra charge for $599

Another slick deals front pager

Even after almost 6 years on the market..I still say its worth the $599 if its at least as sonically capable as the Onkyo RZ50 I used to own

Its somewhat amazing Onkyo is getting all this time out of these same models. I have never seen this phenomenon before
At this point they certainly have long captured their development costs and can sell them aggressively priced. Probably a good thing for a section of the market like slick deals

Actual owners seem to be very happy with these models
I suggest reading through the AVS owners' thread for information from them

My Onkyo nr676 is just as good, only missing hdmi earc and HDMI 2.1+, no biggie, consoles are direct to tv and dont need lossless return for games. Bluray player is direct to receiver so no loss in features there. 5.2.2 and 4k is the max I use.

I dont care about Durak or any kind of calibrator, my ears and brain will calibrate just fine. But if my unit dies (had it since 2018- $349.99)), I'd get this one, its almost the same.

I'm still using the Onkyo AV receiver I bought out of college decades ago. Are they still the same level of quality?

Based on what you said, very likely no.
The main reason this is still so popular is access to Dirac.
The only meaningful additions to the new units will be access to Dirac's subwoofer/bass room correction(DLBC) & D-ART room correction & likely 4 independent sub outs which this does not offer.

This comes at a cost, Denon & Marantz are a good example of that.
This isn't really a benefit for most people, these 2021 PAC units are a good example of that.

It still looks valid to me. I show $150 off, and I have it in cart right now. Debating.

Same with me and my 676. My htpc and Nvidia Shield Pro connect to the TV so I can get 120Hz and the TV ARCs to the receiver. I can't tell the sound difference between ARC and eARC with the media I consume.

Will this drive 3 -4ohm front speakers to normal listening levels? Too bad no pre outs.

I need at least a 7.1 receiver, with modern compatibility(EARC, Sonos, home assistant).

Is this as good as the deals are likely to get? This has everything I want, so I'm wondering if I'm likely to find a 7.2 version for that much cheaper?

If your speakers are truly 3-4 ohm across a wide range...this unit might be a challenge for you if you like louder listening levels

Personally, Nothing at even double this price point would be recommended by me if your speakers are what you say they are

Check out the Onkyo RZ70..its the least expensive unit I know of that I would pair with those speakers and not have a question in my mind whether there would be an issue

These PAC units didnt do well on ASR testing with 4 ohm loads
I personally owned a Denon X4800 for a while and I would not pair it with 3-4 ohm speakers and listen at loud levels, consistently, either

However, I would have no issue with trying that with my Integra 8.4 and it shares the same amp/power supply as the Onkyo RZ70 I suggested

On another note, speakers that are 3-4 ohm , across a wide range, are typically higher end anyway

What are you using now to power them?
That might be the real litmus test of what could work for you

Yes, if the possibility of SOTA RC (Dirac ART) is attractive. No, if you think the next gen Onkyos are going to be anywhere near this price.

If a 7.2 setup is possible, shouldn't you wait for a deal on the RZ30?
