The TX NR7100 stands out as a low priced way to get Dirac Live and 7.2.2 support, with several comments calling it the cheapest Dirac AVR at this price and a strong value versus newer Onkyo and Denon options. Setup is described as easy, and the receiver is said to sound excellent with normal listening levels, especially when paired with a subwoofer and room correction. The main cautions are its age, lack of pre outs and independent sub outs, and reports of power limiting or limp mode with low impedance speakers. A few long term reliability complaints and one overheating concern also surface, so it looks best for standard home theater use with typical 8 ohm speakers.

  • Dirac Live is available onboard at no extra charge, which makes the $599 price point attractive for calibration-focused setups.

  • Setup can be straightforward, and the unit has worked as a replacement for older AVRs in at least some home theater transitions.

  • The receiver can deliver strong real-world results after room calibration, including clearer center dialogue and improved low-end fidelity.

  • ARC and eARC can produce indistinguishable sound for some setups, so the receiver may still work well even without chasing eARC-specific differences.

  • The TX-NR7100 can show poor behavior with 4-ohm speaker loads, including a power-limiting "limp mode" risk that may not be clearly indicated.

  • The unit lacks pre-outs and parallel subwoofer outputs, which can limit expansion options compared with models that offer those features.

  • Dirac Live may not improve sound for every system, and some users report a downgrade in sound quality after upgrading.

  • Coupon and deal pricing can be unreliable, since at least one report says the coupon code stopped working.

If there are other areas of your system that you could upgrade---especially the sub or center---I'd do that first. Or acoustic room treatments, if needed. The receiver makes a trivial audible difference compared to that.
Already have dual sub which x4400 controls independently. Yes center can use an upgrade. Wondering how much Dirac be an improvement over xt32, although I use the app which helps.

What to gain replacing Denon x4400 with this
I would run A1 Evo AccoustiX rather than buy any side grade here; the 4400 is better on some counts.

I already have Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and rhe app too which I have used to calibrate. It does multiple sweep of every speaker and at different listening positions and the optimiz. Will A1 Evo Accoust be better?

supermanrob: so in this thread, A1EVO is better than Dirac (I can only assume you mean all of Dirac including ART). Funny how you spent $800-$1000 on ART when you are so impressed by Audyssey. Did you really purchase ART? Why so wishy washy depending on which product thread you're in?

Nice, just looked up in my email and I got my 676 at Frys in June 2018 for $268. Mines still running too.
I got mine during that sale, but had a coupon and brought it down to $240

So A1EVO is an extension/upgrade to "Audyssey", so yes it should be better(it's significant/game changing ime).

Having compared "Dirac" vs "Audyssey".
Short answer,in your case yes imo.

The "Dirac" on this is only for loudspeakers.
It doesn't offer their subwoofer/bass version(DLBC), let alone "ART!
It also only has parallel sub outs.

You have Audyssey's XT32,SUB EQ HT and independent sub outs.
A significant advantage ime.

Keep in mind there are several iterations of A1EVO, the simplest is Express.
"Dirac" has 3 and it too has a learning curve.
How well they are implemented is vital, not everyone does.

Take a look at Express & give it a shot.
It cost you nothing.

Well here is a good example on how being knowledgeable regarding all this is vital!

They both have different "versions", so saying " Dirac" or "Audyssey" is misleading/misinforming.

They are both very good, that's why they are always compared to one another!

Which is "better" is a personal choice, it is not up to me to make that determination!
What is "wishy washy" about this common sense opinion?

I would take the breathless ravings of rabid audio nerds and receiver salesmen with many grains of salt---electronic bells and whistles can only do so much, compared to physical speakers.

What is your current center?

If in no hurry, may be a good idea.
I wouldn't expect any significant drop to this price though.

They may be just be doing early BF sales to relieve all sales at one time imo.

I did.

Chasing the holy grail of DIRAC LIVE. Smilie

There are a few other benefits, but selling the old S760 to cover about half the upgrade cost made it worthwhile.

Do I night it's night and day better? Of course not. Not even close. After A1 Evo AcoustiX I probably would fail a blind test on which was better, TBH.

But I enjoy this stuff, and it was fun.
I did the same exact upgrade, but in my case, it made a huge difference. I bought the S760 as a cheap, emergency stopgap a few years ago when I completely changed my home setup (got larger speakers but ended up with a lower end AVR) and I had been pretty frustrated with the setup. I'm not an audiophile but I should've put more effort into research so no one is at fault but myself.

I finished setting up the new Onkyo and the I've been extremely happy with the migration. I have clarity back in my center channel and low end fidelity--It means I can hear movie dialogue well and now there's depth and nuance in "pew pew crash boom bang" type sounds.

Maybe others will benefit from my experience, so these are the main things I learned in this purchase cycle:
* The Denon S760 has a 2 kHz volume dip (by design to compensate for cheap, harsh speakers) that is particularly pronounced with Klipsch horns. This is what was causing my center sound like it was drowned out by everything else.* The woofers in my larger speakers were experiencing power starvation symptoms worsened by the Audyssey "Large Speaker" setting, making my low end sound muddy.
* Apparently it struggled calculating the phase alignment and timing differences between the speaker woofers and the sub which created an acoustic hole at the 80 Hz crossover. This made my sub sound detached and jarring.

Speaker setup:
Fronts: 2x Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-8000F
Center: Klipsch RP-504C
Subwoofer: SVS PB-1000 Pro

I wasn't impressed with my S760H until I ran A1 Evo AccousiX. That TOTALLY changed the game and massively improved the 760 to the point where my new 7100 is going into *another* room for sound.

I believe the audio processing improvements but I think in my case, I do have a legitimate power problem. What size speakers/sub do you drive with your 760 vs the 7100?

JBL bookshelf 530/520C + PB1000 Pro on the 7100, SVS Ultra Evo Bookshelf LCR and PB1000 Pro on the 760.
