So the nearly 70 percent of Americans who are overweight are usually because they are depressed?

Jeez. its an epidemic of depression.
Confused 70 percent of Amercians are only over-weight during the winter? laugh out loud

read what I replied too and what you just wrote...Facepalm

I highly doubt that 70 percent are fat only during the winter months....but being a woman I can vouch that we tend to gain weight during the winter months due to lack of exercise, sun and yes depression. Hence everyone trying to get back in shape for "bikini season" .

Hey, depression hurts. . .and obesity is not all due to depression, but there are plenty of folks that are depressed because of weight
And a lot of obesity is caused by eating disorders which usually start with depression. Just like most alcoholics have anxiety and they drink to cope with social situations.

People seem to think that people are obese enjoy being that way...um I'm sure they didn't wake up one day and say "hey I think I want to be fat, I'm going to gain 200lbs just for the heck of it. " laugh out loud

FTR I'm not saying you think that way, just people in general.

I agree with that, I know that there are eating disorders, genetic conditions, etc. I have struggled with weight issues for years. I really like to eat. . .

I also believe that it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. Homy does have craz in his name. . .some crazy folks. . .

Where is the proof that 70 percent of America is over weight?

You really should get your obsession with over weight people checked out. It could be turning into a phobia. nod
Feb. 10, 2010 -- More Americans are becoming overweight or obese, exercising less, and eating unhealthy foods.

That's the finding of the latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which shows that 63.1% of adults in the U.S. were either overweight or obese in 2009.

Actually, weight gain is usually due to the depression caused from S.A.D...people get depressed, they eat, they gain weight...doesn't take a degree to figure that out..Rofl2

And if people got depressed all year long, it wouldn't be "Seasonal" now would it? laugh out loud

It scares me that you are someday going to be a Dr.Facepalm Thank god you're no where near me..laugh out loud
Iagree with all of the above.

Last I checked, 63.1 /= 70. Scratchhead

Are you by any chance taking remedial arithmetic?

But you did create a strawman saying that's what BG said... which is not at all what she said.

thats what i was responding to. Yes i understood your point.

But you misunderstood mine.
I was simply stating that something like weight gain would lead to depression and during the winter SAD gets diagnosed.

Inability to go out and exercise is very common.
i never denied the fact that people that are depressed find comfort in food and gain weight.

but you are deviating from my main point.

No, but the statement you made below shows what kind of person you are. I don't know ANY doctors who act/talk like that. Think of something else to be when you grow up.

Sorry i rounded up.

To be fair though, following current trends that percentage is probably even higher in 2010, not quite 70 but its getting there.
