I've been looking into light therapy.

alright?

And for the record all i said was "Often depression due to weight gain is a reason for S.A.D being diagnosed during the winter months."

I wasn't saying anything about it being the reason in this case.
Weight gain doesn't cause depression. People may be upset they gained weight, but true depression isn't just something situational making a person upset. Most people have coping mechanisms to deal with the day to day ups and downs of life. It's when nothing makes a person happy and it becomes a chronic issue that it's depression. That's a chemical balance, not someone being blue about the post holiday 10 pound weight increase.

Actually, weight gain is usually due to the depression caused from S.A.D...people get depressed, they eat, they gain weight...doesn't take a degree to figure that out..Rofl2

And if people got depressed all year long, it wouldn't be "Seasonal" now would it? laugh out loud

It scares me that you are someday going to be a Dr.Facepalm Thank god you're no where near me..laugh out loud
Don't worry, being a pre-med major is far from a guarantee of becoming a doctor.

actually its quite possible for someone to become depressed because they arent happy with their current situation. whether it be body image, job, trauma or so on.

it just so happens that during winter when people gain a large amount of weight they get depressed.

Yeah, you totally missed what I said. Something is wrong if gaining a few pounds throws someone into depression. Everyone has bad things happen in their life. Most people can handle them and move on. Something is already wrong if something bad happening makes a person truly depressed.

You've never met a doctor who was an ass?

Seriously?

Im sure you are happy with your primary care physician but trust me being in a hospital for over a year i have met plenty.
Yeah, they are mostly recovering alcoholics/people who used to do drugs because of the ease of access.

Quote from IVIal :
And the only reason people will tolerate asshole doctors is when they're brilliant. So yeah... you don't qualify for the "I get to be an asshole" kind of doctor. laugh out loud

And FYI... asshole doctors suck.

Carry on, ill read whatever you want to post when i get back.

I love how they kept going on blaming genes and hormones for weight gain. Almost sympathetic.

Yet for alcoholics who are also plagued with the same things... interesting.
I actually agree with this, but not entirely. . .it is all about the balance of genetics and environment. And there are definitely genes for addictive personality. . .alcoholics, gamblers, etc.

Quote from homycraz2 :
Did i not ask Op if there had been past depression?

And would i say depression in general is over diagnosed? Depending on who you ask. Yes it is.

Pharmaceutical companies make money just by pushing drugs. So do the psychologists who treat the depression.
Need to stop talking about this stuff. . .you have stirred up a hornets nest. . .

But it's fun to get people all riled up over nothing.

The ones that I have met just don't have time for proper bedside manner obviously i would be a lot kinder with patients I was just pointing out they do exist.
Why would I be nice to some bitch on the Internet who thinks they can insult me, I mean I don't care but don't expect me to be nice when it's so easy to get back at them.

Here's a hint. People that like you are less likely to sue you. And everyone screws up sometimes. True story, bro.

Patients aren't always all that easy to be nice to, so might as well start practicing now. Thumbup

So basically you had cruel intentions when you first posted.
The OP was asking for advice on a medical issue and you come in and say that it's a "BS" diagnosis. You did that because you saw people in here who you wanted to get riled up.
You don't need any more info than what the OP gave so stop with that candy ass excuse that you need history.
Grow up B.

A litttle bit too much, so you probably pee it out:
'The Adequate Intake (AI) levels have been established by the U.S. Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Recommendations are: 5 micrograms (200 IU or International Units) daily for all individuals (males, female, pregnant/lactating women) under the age of 50 years-old.'
