My brother, who is also a big guy but not fat, and has a voracious appetite but wants to eat moderately healthfully, will eat boiled eggs as a snack. Lots of protein and fills you up, and not full of junk like other stuff.
.
plus if you go by the shelves where packaged breads are, they have a whole foods organic whole wheat sliced bread. it has a great nutty flavor, lots of slices, and about 3.xx
all in all, their breads are significantly cheaper than at regular grocery stores and much much much healther.
also, do you have a mixer? i buy unbromated, unbleached organic flour and make bread at home. super easy, very little effort, no preservatives, and cheap - one big loaf made on a sunday lasts us several days. i wrap it in paper towels or cheesecloth while it is warm, and then in a bread basket or ziploc bag or covered dish (my preference cheesecloth and dish/basket cos you know how i am about chemicals in paper towels and zip bags
no worries sweetie. you inspired me to get on the ball and get stainless steel bakeware. maybe with tax refund money. my family thinks i am
oh there are so many places i could go with this, so i'll just say this: it is my left knee that is swollen.
freud would find it very interesting that you mentioned apples and swollen heads
speaking of apples, and WF, i know i multiquoted kay12 and the quote disappeared. so thank you, sweetie, for checking up on me. WF not delivering today or tomorrow cos of snow.
how are you feeling today?
Never knew about all organic bread from WF. I am going there this week, so will look around..
I used to bake too, but some time it came out good, some time not.. Then i heard about no kneading bread aka 'artisan bread in 5 minutes a day'.. borrowed that book from the library and tried it.. it came out nice texture, but too chewy.. In the meantime, i got too adventurous and bought their next book "healthy bread in 5 minutes a day" and got all those unbleached, unbromated all purpose organic flour King Arthur brand, and all associated stuff, tried to make bread ..again too crusty and chewy texture..there went my bread baking.. now i buy those organic vermont bread..
Now that i have my stand mixture, i should try to make them again.. i still have that darn flour burried in the freezer..
I am ok now, though really anxious.. i am sleeping with vicks nyquil's help.. night time is hard, i think too much, so ok.. I did self exam again, couldn't locate anything
I also makepizza dough [greenlitebites.com] andpizza sauce [greenlitebites.com] from blog, and really liked it. I have to sneak the veggies since DS#1 wouldn't tough veggies much and eat only selected fruits
MOT2.. Thanks..have you finished reading all those books you girls were talking about?
Looks like it will be a surprising if grandma lasts the night.

dealhog... you've already been given some great ideas on to-go snacks. if you go the cold cut route (i love cold cuts for snacks) just be careful on which ones you pick - want to avoid ones with very high sodium levels and also those that have nitrates/nitrites added. you mentioned cooking... were you also looking for at home snacks or just things he can take to school?
kay12... some breads are designed to be chewy and crusty. you sure this wasn't one of those ciabatta type recipes? if not, then the other thing is: did it have any baking powder in the recipe? if so you have to be very careful when prepping. baking soda reacts with the ingredients and causes the air to rise. overmix the ingredients/dough and you will end up with a tough product because the air bubbles created by the baking powder escape. ALSO, did your bread recipe call for yeast? and if so, did you proof the yeast before adding to the bread? i always, always, always proof yeast before adding it into anything and for me that makes the big difference. also, did your recipe call for bread flour instead of all purpose flour, or both perhaps? bread flour has a higher gluten content, and if you omit/substitute you will end up with a tough bread.
do you have the cookbook the joy of cooking? i like making the milk bread from there and i especially like the cinnamon raisin milk bread.
WF... hopefully when i go to the orthopedic surgeon on friday, i can pop into store. there's one next door. my shoulder and chest have really been acting up today. nerve pain down arm, shoulder throbbing, difficulty breathing. no fun. i am eagerly awaiting that appt. thanks for asking sweetie!
you not sleeping... nyquil isn't good to take just like that. got any melatonin at home? it will help you fall off to sleep and get a rest without drugging yourself.
rach... colic. have you tried gripe water? a boppy pillow? one of my goddaughters had incredibly bad colic. the combination of placing her at an angle on the boppy pillow, plus giving her gripe water helped a great deal. we also made sure to burp her right after nursing so the gas didn't build up. some babies also like to be held upside down (not something i recommend or would ever have the courage to do, but my friends have done this with their kids)
ank,
Nikayla
TM4 Thanks for the fondant recipe...will pass onto my mom... as she got that cricut cake machine... and she is dying to try it out
