Problem is, now that my box is sealed and ready to go... I'm thinking of more things I should put in it. I have a "maybes" box of bras and box of clothes. They are pretty small... but still- a lot of maybes. Facepalm
My problem is the maybes too. I have to tell myself that maybe actually means no. But it's hard to let maybes go Frown I think the solution is to just never buy something that's a maybe. Which would mean no shopping online whenever I'm unsure about the item's fit.... Hmm. I think id like that!

i was thinking of selling l because the textbooks are new to like new. i figured the profit would be bigger. thanks for opening that possibility, i'll be checking first how much buy back would get me before listing.

i just looked at half.com, and find only buyer protection. i think there really isn't any seller protection in trading places like these. sellers have to protect themselves. i am leaning towards signature confirmation + insurance. it's probably a good investment for ~$100 items. i'm glad i learned the lesson for a relatively very small price.
Another choice is if you live near a college, my dd when she was in college used to go to the book store and ask them how much they would buy the book back for, if it was more or then same she could get from selling them back to Textbooks or whoever she got them from she would sell it to them. I personally just sell them back for my son because he won't do what my dd did. I don't like having to worry about someone ripping me off.

I am like you girls, I have maybes only because I paid shipping to get them to me and I think "is it worth returning it". Well I have decided on some it is better to loose the shipping then just have it sit there in my closet/room. I don't do fleabay. I am still searching for some invoices, for returns, probably going to have to look at my orders saved online in my email, so I can send them back. I keep telling myself I am done then find more stuff or decided on the maybe stuff to send it back. Only thing I don't like is you get the mc/gc and still have to use the money, but since I have two DD's who like PINK, I will spend it on getting stuff like that they need.

That would mean I couldn't shop at VS at all.laugh out loud Most of my returns are a problem of fit or quality.

Quiet day in here but I'm happy to see everyone getting those returns out! I only have like 3 maybes.

Now, I feel like I'm getting totally ripped off with Amazon Prime. Mad We pay around $90 a year. (I don't remember exactly how much it is, but that's close.) We need to find a way to get it cheaper, when it expires in December.

I'm happy for you. You will go through a difficult stage when you don't know if you can stay at home & just be a mom. You start to lose your identity & get lonely. That will pass. It's an adjustment that isn't as easy as many think it will be. I've known several women who went back to work, during that difficult stage. They wanted more adult interaction, & missed socializing with work friends. If you make it through that, you'll be happy you stuck it out. We'll be here to listen, when you have a down day. hug
thanks GH, ds defiantely requires more energy then dealing with people at work. I got "lonely" during my tme off when I was on maternity leave. Thanks for teh words of encouragement. I think I will be preoccupied with the upcoming move across country, and then settling in and visiting dh family in az.

Thanks Ladies!

Amazon selling turns out to be a nightmare! I sold only 3 cheaper books (thankfully!), and one of the buyers contacted me that they didn't receive it. It's been more than 3 weeks since the delivery confirmation states "delivered". I sold this book at a loss (2 of the 3 books are at a loss actually). I'm a newbie, so I just matched the lowest price (1 cent + $3.99 ship), only to find out I'll lose out when I was preparing the order. I didn't realize Media Mail can cost that high. Amazon's cut is very high too for such a cheap item. Anyway, I'm thinking positively that I'm just glad this happened to me for a smaller item. I am planning to sell a couple of textbooks. I guess those should ship with signature confirmation and insurance. Anyone who has experience selling textbooks at Amazon have any advice?
I've sold on Half.com as well as Amazon. I like Half.com a little bit better, I think their fees are slightly lower. You will always always always make more money selling the books yourself rather than having someone do a "buy back", even online. They take a huge cut as a convenience of the service, and it's often only for books that have been published in the past year.

DEFINITELY get insurance (and always delivery confirmation) for books even over $50 if you don't want to end up screwed. I sold a $75 textbook (i don't remember if it was half or amazon), shipped it media mail with deliv. confirmation. The girl never got it, it ended up being "lost" in the mail. Luckily the buyer was super nice about it and didn't think *I* was trying to pull anything shady, but I had to open up a Paypal case and also a case with USPS. Before you case will ever be closed with USPS, you'll have to end up refunding the buyer the full amt through Paypal b/c there's only so many days they give you to "resolve" problems. USPS ended up finding the label to my package and mailed it to me with an apology letter (I really think someone at USPS stole the textbook to resell) which was super shady. It took like 90 days for them to confirm it as "lost" and mail me a piece of paper that said I could be refunded my postage only. Since I only had Delivery confirmation and not insurance, I had no claim against USPS. I had to refund the buyer $75 out of my own pocket.

ETA: I was really anal about getting $$ back for my textbooks and often made more $$ than it cost me in the first place (that was also back when B&N used to let you use 25% off Qs on textbooks). I think some of my freshman science books I paid $75-$80 for and sold them for nearly $100.

i sold a couple of textbooks on amazon and thankfully, the transactions went well. amazon does take a huge cut of the profits, but i just wanted to get rid of the textbooks fast. i always figure out the final cost of selling the textbook myself and see if it's higher than the buyback program (if it's almost the same amount of money as the buyback price, then i just choose buyback so that i don't have to pay for shipping or the headache of worrying whether it'll get to the buyer). i used usps flat rate box with delivery confirmation, which was expensive, but a lot cheaper than using ups (i hate shipping with ups--they definitely rip you off BIG time). i made sure to message the buyers the day i sent out the packages, along with tracking information and approximate time when it should get there. if i had to do it over again, i would ship another method than flat rate box in order to get signature confirmation.

edit--i'm not sure if insurance is necessary if you get signature confirmation. amazon would most likely side with you if a buyer claims "item not received" but the tracking shows that the package was signed for. for peace of mind and if insurance isn't too costly, i would get it...but it does eat into what you get back.

Kurpee your post showed up just in time when I was thinking if I should sell my books through amazon. Now I think I am good with ebay /half.com.

I asked my dh for help and he did his best at times, so that was a relief. I think it was easier to adjust the second time around because I had more experience and anticipated situations better with less apprehension. I wish you and your family the best.

Iagree buy back is completely rip off no matter on which site- it is always too much to just rent the book.
How do you pay shipping label for media mail by PayPal? I could never find it Hide

In our marketing class last semester one guy was saying that the idea of opening site to just buy/sell book within campus is very good and we can save money by that and blah blah blah prof was smart but I think he some how got dumbfounded by that student's idea. I raised the hand and asked a simple question to him- why would I sell my book on your site if I can sell it for more than what I bought it for on eBay laugh out loud everyone in class was EEK! really? I was like - in which world they live? or how dumb they should be to not know how to make money or at least not lose much money.

And these are the students of business school we are talking about laugh out loud

That made me think for the first time that 1. We are smart that's why we found SD in the first place (most people still don't go beyond the Macy's coupon they get in mail- hard to believe but it is true) 2. We share knowledge and get smarter by finding better deals and money saving techniques and 3. now we are so used to it that when someone spend without much thought we see them as surprise laugh out loud

i take off things i don't like or don't fit anymore, pack in a box or luggage, and plan on getting them to my lil sis. my stuff are also all over the place. like all hoodies are in ds's closet. very warm tops in the guest br closet. i would ideally have them all in one place, but i just put the ones i'm not likely to use in extra spaces elsewhere.
