Base on what criterias do you rank people?

611 189 February 6, 2012 at 11:15 AM in Chat
I'm going to put this out there first before asking this question. I believe that our brainpower lasts longer than our physical appearance. Almost every nice looking person in this world will one day grow old and become unattractive but brainpower is there with them until the day they die or acquire Alzheimer. With that being said and since I am in college right now I will start up with the college environment. Does anyone here rank people based on what their major are in college - kind of like the caste system? The more difficult major require higher rank in high school - meaning people who excelled in every class in high school are allowed admission to that specific major.

I'm curious about this because whenever I walk around campus, I always see people wearing shirts that may have one of the following phrases on them "College of Liberal Art, College of Natural Science, College of Engineering, College of Business." Does this mean that they want to be ranked based on their major?

Ok ok, I will be more broad. In college, I respect those majors that have the lowest acceptance rate since those majors tend to be the hardest in the universities. In life, I respect those who have vast amount of wealth (anyone who is making 100k+ a year). There is a positive correlation between tough majors and money making power. So, in the end, I respect those who can strive through a tough major. And, they have every right to judge me and I will respect everything they say. But, for those that are in the majors deemed not beneficial for society or improving our lives, their says mean nothing.

This really makes me laugh.

I know CEOs, CFOs, famous people......a lot of them had crappy education or are just not really that bright. They landed their wealth and success on chance. I hang out around them and am boggled that they can function at all sometimes. laugh out loud

This is a great book about that topic.

So the ability to communicate clearly and effectively doesn't improve quality of life? I suggest we drop you off in the rain forest with a primal tribe to test this theory.

BTW- I was a mechanical engineering major in college.

I also fully support this idea, but for different reasons.

I don't know where you get the communication idea from... I said grammar. As long as I get the general idea of my opening post across, it doesn't matter if I write it grammatically incorrect or correct. Drop me off in a primal tribe with technology will be a different story. Animals (including humans) long for life, so if you do anything to threaten their lives, they will do as you wish. Violence is also a form of communication.

Back to my original question please, we have gone off topic yet again. How do you guys rank people? I believe humans are really pre-destined to be what they will be in the future. Really, you can't escape the caste you are born into. If you think about it, people are born with a certain genes that will allow them to do certain things in life. Our genetics are like keys that enable us to open certain knowledge doors. Some are born with all the keys necessary to access all sorts of knowledge while others are born with limited amount of keys so they don't have the potential to unlock all the necessary doors to knowledge that may help them move up in society. Now, if people are proud of their birth-given genes, then most likely that is the reason for why they proudly wear shirts that have phrases like "College of Natural Science, Business, etc..." I think it is there to remind them of their places in society and I believe that remembering our places in society is the most important things. I fully respect people who are above me and anything they say is right and everything I say is wrong.
