I'm sure it's been mentioned and buried but extended warranty benefit goes away next month which sucks
Uhh yeah I have an Amex, this is not true lol
I'm sure citi fought hard in the bidding process to beat Amex to get the Costco account. Part of the terms were probably to offer better benefits for the customer....

amex used to Bill the merchant additional $7 or higher a month for accepting AMEX. also high interchange fee. Recently, amex bundle with visa, MC, discover card. I'm sure more people will accept AMEX.
they tarnished their name by being greedy ...
ohh wait this is exactly why Costco dropped them and it looks like wells Fargo might buy them. Amex will always be known as a business blunder
Who knows then...maybe you won't be charged for the item now
I'd sure hope so, but that is not the case. Online shows cancelled, and my gift card is charged, so there is a technical glitch - disconnect between store and online system.

I'm really happy about these change in benefits. Definitely an improvement over the Costco Amex. 3% restaurants is really nice when no other rotating 5% CB card can be used. Even better so now that it's a Visa since it's quite common that a lot of local restaurants we eat at don't take AMEX. 4% for gas at Costco will also be hard to beat in price since in my area Costco is usually 10cents or more cheaper then some of the lowest cost places that will take a CC in my area. 3% travel is also pretty good in general . Overall can't complain.
Really enticing perks on this card...I'm very surprised the travel rewards are so great. That's better than my Citi Prestige card! I'm guessing there are international transaction fees, however, because they don't say anything about it. Anybody know for sure?
I may have to move away from the amex blue cash card.
I am planing to get costco membership this week using livingsocial deal and and apply for costco visa when it is available.
So here is my question. If I get executive membership will I get 2% cashback and all the benefits with costco visa particularly "2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com"
Bottom line will we get 2% for executive membership and 2% on visa ?
I have chatted and called them like 10 times since last year. Every time I am told, I have to apply for a new card through their new application process. Costco Amex will not automatically issue a new Amex card to existing costco customers. At least, as of now it seems that way, not sure how you convinced them to give you a new card. When did you do it?
If you have a "pre-approved" offer, it probably won't be a hard pull on your credit file. That's my case. I received email from Amex regarding a Blue Cash with $200 bonus and I clicked through the link and log into my existing Amex account, updated few information, submitted the application. Approved instantly with the a credit limit higher than my Costco Amex and 0% balance transfer (with fee).
more than 50% of the items offered by costco aren't a good deal or worth paying a membership fee for... only if the perk of a free continuing membership was a perk, I'd be somewhat interested, but they dont build many clubs and the ones they have are typically packed w big lines and BIG orders that take a while per customer and walmart will beat costco at their own game with same day delivery and 3rd party fulfillment... just mulling it over while typing, why not offer free (rebated, refunded) membership fee if you spend $400 or more on the card in a year? otherwise, aldi, walmart, local supermarket and ebay got me covered w no fees
Hmm... Costco isn't for everyone, and I guess not you, but it sure has a lot of customers and is doing something right.
Costco scares the crap out of other retailers, and its stores are packed as you acknowledged. Imo, one of their better pluses is that they screen products very well. They don't sell crap. Their biggest differentiator is customer service. PriceClub had crappy CS, but Costco CS is legendary.
I'm wondering the same thing. Stacking would be nice.

Are you saying the 2% cb doesn't stack with the executive's 2% cb?

So there will be no benefit to having Executive membership vs standard membership other than saving the extra $50 in membership fees?

The 2% executive rebate has nothing to do with whether you have an amex or not.

Costco has a multi-year contract so the benefits will be the same for a long time.
How long is the contract for? I haven't seen that stated anywhere.
As pointed out previously, AmEx depends on higher transaction fees for revenue. When the Costco contract came up, Costco didn't want to continue paying that rate (arguing from a pro-customer POV) so the breakup happened. Visa and Mastercard depend more on debt/balances carried for revenue.
According to Bloomberg[bloomberg.com], Amex was charging Costco 0.6% and was willing to go lower. Apparently, 0.6% is cheap, so I don't think fees were the problem. There is something else going on here, but it will never see the light of day unless one of the insiders writes a tell all book in 20 years. There is something in the article about a ketchup insult, and both sides claim they were the ones to pull the plug.
Costco's costs to accept credit cards as part of its deal with Amex was about 0.6 percent of every purchase, people familiar with the arrangements say, which was pretty cheap for any retailer, but Chenault offered to cut them further.
4% cash back on eligible gas worldwide, including gas at Costco, for the first $7,000 per year and then 1% thereafter (Costco Amex is 3%) (don't buy Costco gas often cause it's a pain and I've been getting better deals with gas station gift cards at a discount coupled with ebay bucks and discounted ebay gift cards. I can also get 3% CB with the card below, so far all gas stations have accepted it, just not Costco gas. I can live with not getting that extra 1% when I pay for gas with a CC.)
3% cash back on restaurant and eligible travel purchases worldwide (Costco Amex is 2%) I have a JCB credit card that gives you 3% back on all purchases, the only problem with JCB is it is on the discover network and is not accepted everywhere, but most large establishments take it
2% cash back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com (Costco Amex is 1%) Citi double cash card is going to give you 2% back everywhere you shop and will be used anywhere JCB is not accepted. I'm assuming there should not be a problem using this at Coscto since you can get it as a Visa card
edit- another member pointed out this is a MC, not Visa. Any suggestions on a high CB visa card for all purchases? Or is this Costco card the best deal?
1% cash back on all other purchases Why bother when you are getting 2%-3% with the above cards
Are there any other benefits I may be missing? Agree the downside is I have to carry 2 cards, but slickdealers will put if with carrying more cards then that to maximize savings. For me, 2 cards is no big deal.
You have not missed a thing. For the first time, I visited last week to a Sam's club to pick up my online order, and it was a worst experience ever. Waited for 1 hour in the line. Kiosk won't pull up my order. I was told to go in line at CS counter. No sign of order email/text message that my order is delayed to be picked in the time slot that I picked up when I placed order. I was told my order is not ready. First problem, system issues. Second, the girl at the customer service was like, "oh, you are just ordering this?" You could have picked it from the isle. I was not hoping for a red carpet welcome at the customer counter to pick up my order, but certainly did not expect this. Next day I get an email that my order was cancelled, even though I had the girl go to the isle and pick up the item and finish the transaction. I only got the Sam's membership due to free amex deal last year and I am not going to renew, even if it is free. Costco beats the crap out of Sams Club IMO.
Wow, I'm sorry to hear about your poor experience. I like Costco, and it's one of the very few stores where I feel comfortable paying regular prices on most products. Of the approximate 10 years I have had a Costco membership, I have not yet any bad customer service issues, thankfully.

Uh- I thought citi doublecash is a mastercard?
Which doesn't work at Costco.
As to the rest, you can get more value with point cards than cashback cards, assuming you travel at all.
