A basic brewing kit. Northern Brewer item #7601 [northernbrewer.com]

I would *highly* suggest some Fermcap-S, unless you like scrubbing nasty gooey dried up wort off your stovetop, NB item #9136 [northernbrewer.com]

That would rock. Will the small batches be available to the public or at tastings at all or just internal folks?

Stone is having an employee contest and we are all brewing a batch on the new 6bbl pilot system. So in a couple of months i will be brewing 6bbls of it. If it wins the contest, then expect to see it nationwide. Some people are brewing some crazy stuff, i kept it simple and delicious... while keeping it in the high abv so we can barrel age it if we like. 9.2% alcohol. 20 entries though so its a longshot still.
best of luck matt. is there a way we can vote?

who determines what beer tastes like? is it suppose to taste like bud/miller/coors?

I bet this coconut ipa will still have a lot of hop and beer taste, i know in a blind taste testi would determine it is beer and not a fruit juice . cheers

Describe to me what beer tastes like? Have you had a sour ale before? How about a stout? Or an IPA? Do any of them taste similar? Craft beer is amazing because there are very few limitations. Where coconut doesn't sound super amazing in an IPA but what if the hops used add a fruit punch or pineapple flavor? I am not sure the hops or grain in this beer, but you can't knock it until you try it.

Nice! After a few days of fermentation at 67-70 degrees, slowly raise the temp to dry the beer out.

unfortunately no....its going to be an internal brew contest with employees voting for their favorite beer. i bet my beer won't win because its not extreme, however its really delicious... I am hoping keeping it full of flavor but simple to replicate is the way to go...less chance of brewing a dud of a beer.

I'll try to get it in the mid 70s (sitting at 69-70 now). I'm using 3711 which is a beast, took my last few saisons to 1.000-1.001.

I'm brewing at work tomorrow for an employee based contest. I'm brewing an imperial brown that has toasted oats, cinnamin sticks at knockout, and toasted coconut in secondary. Malts are leaned towards a toffee and caramel flavors. My goal is to create a Samoa girl scout cookie flavor beer. My homebrew pilot was spot on. Higher abv(9.3%) as well... My work brew is only going to be a 5bbl system. Still i am stoked. However i am toasting my rolled oats for the brew right now. 25# of rolled oats that need to be toasted takes forever....

That's terrible news. Incredibly sad.

Mattman was the first I thought of when I saw the news on another site. I don't believe that accident happened to Mattman, as I think he shows up elsewhere on the website with a different last name and in a supervisory role. I really hope my hunch is right here - my thoughts go out to the young man this happened to and his loved ones.
