Forget the haters! My wife and her aunt have something similar. If the performance is the same, It's a great deal for less tech-savy uses, like home study, or for media consumption. Windows 10 works just fine once you switch out of S mode. Streaming services work, Zoom works, light browsing works (seen the wife with 10 tabs open in Chrome and Edge just fine). They pay bills, do online shopping, write emails - all that stuff. The kids play Roblox and Minecraft. Wife hooks up to the TV to do her workouts. The specs are all low-end, but it is $150.

So what are the cons? It's not thin, nor light. The camera is hot garbage to me, but the wife uses it for Zoom and hasn't complained yet, so there's that. The screen is ... meh. I mean, our phones have better screens, and I'll bet a $150 phone might as well. At first I was concerned about the 4GB of ram, but honestly, it hasn't been a problem YET. I'm sure, in the future we'll have to revisit this. I would like an ethernet jack, but it's hard to tell because they only use them in the house and we have good wi-fi. If we go on vacation, it might be a different story. Also, 128GB of storage is nothing these days. You will run out fast if you have a lot of media. But this problem isn't exclusive to this particular model, as the majority of laptops are in the same boat. So add the cost of external storage (SD card, external drive, cloud) to the overall price. Finally, the battery life is not good. You'll have to pay more to start getting decent longevity.

I'm telling you guys. Avoid these lower end Lenovo laptops. Already purchased and returned two similar models. RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded. Even running basic tasks on Windows 10 is hard for these to handle, especially with only 4GB of RAM.

Does the built-in security cover still work with your newly installed camera?
Sure does. It's built into the bezel.

Everything operates as if this was an option from the factory. Well it is, just not on this laptop spec Blink

I see people doing all kinds of upgrade to this laptop. Like increasing memory, changing camera, swapping hard drive. Seems to me the best value is to keep the laptop with factory config and price at $150. Instead of spending all the time and money doing upgrades, might as well get the bestbuy $299 Lenovo that is i3, 15.6 FHD 1080p, 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD @ $300, better if you have the $25 off $250 AMEX Offers available, also has Open Box starting $245. Keeps going in and out of stock though...

Agree on that, but like a lot of SDer here, they spent 300 could get 2 laptop for kids to learning that would be more value for the money well spent. They probably need to pay extra 30 for ram upgrade, but that's 2 laptop vs 1 laptop.

Different stroke for different folks. Some folks buy Civics or Imprezas and enjoy tinkering and adding bolt-on mechanical or appearance enhancements to their vehicles. Go enjoy your stock $150 laptop. Or add a stick of ram (pretty spectacular in this price range to have an empty ram slot). It's great to have all these options. This budget Pentium 6405U cpu is definitely more usable than the common Intel N processors usually in the sub-$200 range.

I purchased the $160 (after taxes) Lenovo 3. Added a 8GB stick of ram ($10 on Amazon-used), making it $170. Runs pretty well ! Does the basic 'stuff' really well. @ $170, I find it hard to beat.

So.... If you're in the market for an external optical drive...

https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/608404

$16 for a Dell USB Slim External DVD+/- RW Drive. Power and data from a single USB connector. If you get it from Amazon Warehouse, the packaging will be damaged but with the discount plus 20% off Warehouse deal, you can get it for $11-something plus tax... and a buck back for slow shipping if you're not in a hurry.

Lol, yeah. I know.

Doesn't seem to be available at $10 anymore though. Sorry.

It is 'slower' 2133MHz ram, but I'd rather have more GB than speed. Besides, I bought my wife 2400Mhz 8GB name brand ram (same laptop) and I really don't see much of a difference.

1. Amazon.com
2. Search: Amazon Warehouse Deals (or just click on https://www.amazon.com/b?node=10158976011)
3. Search DDR4 RAM 8GB

Lots of hits, but none for $10 any longer. It was there earlier, but not now.

Recommendation: Warehouse computer components can come and go with fairly high regularity. Waiting hours for an answer when one can get the answer themselves in seconds will make it difficult to score deals.

Good luck.
