Buying used hard drives are like buying used condoms.

Maybe they will work, maybe you'll end up costing you thousands of dollars.

This is a pretty good deal. I've also had good luck buying used HGST 4TB drives used on eBay and Newegg and throwing them in the ZFS raidz2 in the $50-60 range.

I've had one drive fail and was able to return it. The others are chugging along great. I'd rather have more used drives than fewer expensive drives because ZFS handles data integrity so well.

Looks like these are CMR. Better than the red SMRs just posted.

Note that if you have a Synology NAS and want to run this drive to record surveillance via a HDD over connected USB, it doesn't support that functionality... annoyingly. You have to set up FTP/NFS on the NAS and have camera(s) that support writing over one of those protocols.

I know I'm probably one of those peoples that complain alot about that, however I bought a drive and it was DOA as well as a couple other people I've chatted with in some discords about them in particular. WD Reds 4TB apparently had a bad batch so maybe avoid them for a while.

Wouldn't it make more sense to buy a WD red plus for the same price if its for NAS purposes?

That's what I do. If you run em in raid, you can lose drives anyhow.
