This processor is a beast on benchmark.
Those thinking like me, "can i add an external GPU down the road?" Nope. This chassis does not have Thunderbolt. Although Lenovo support is funny. Someone asked that same question on their website and they just said "read the specs" -- super help!

For gaming PC, you need a PC with dedicated graphics card. This is good for casual gaming or old titles. The Integrated Graphics on this is more or less equivalent to a Nvidia MX250 Graphics card.
Rarely anything this size is a good gaming pc

Still nothing from Lenovo. Ordered 2/4 and contacted chat today with the following response from them
Upon checking here on our system your order did not ho through successfully . After an order Is placed, all orders go through checks and balances which means we will check inventory of the parts and verify all the information you've used to place the order. It would be best If I connect you over to our sales rep to help you rebook your order and make It will be monitored and we can check the status on our order visibility portal.
Edit: on my third representative through chat, they are horrible at customer service...
Edit: fourth representative finally took care of me. Reordered the PC and I fought for free expedited shipping. I guess it arrives monday -__-
Buy the R 5 unless you need the extra cores. It's about a $100 difference.
Skip the next gen. You're not getting big graphics upgrades and it's going to be quite a while before you can get a discount.
In theory, each open program can still use one core even if not optimized for multicore? So if enough apps are used simultaneously, the extra cores should help?

I bought the R5 back in late Jan, love the machine, silent and small, now tempted to get the R 7 (back in stock!) , yes, it's $148 more, but was wondering if the extra cores are worth it when using heavy excel files? (latest excel 2019/365)? I don't do games at all, mostly deal with large compressed files (zip/unzip, rar.. ) , excel workbooks.. oh, and a ton of chrome tabs.
It's a massive upgrade for me nonetheless, coming from an i3 -4th gen,
BTW, got some acer monitors on sale @ ebay, looks amazing with 3 screens..

ugh, i ordered on 1/25 and i'm still waiting. I chat every other day and every rep has said due to demand they don't know when it will be ready if ever. some of the worst customer service i've ever dealt with.
Very fast, coming from a i3-4150T w/16GB RAM this is a quantum leap , the R5 does it in a snap, so I am wondering if going for the R7 is worth the extra money.. boot time has already improved dramatically. ..
Does excel take advantage of the extra cores/threads??

Application capable of leveraging multiple threads rarely scale close to linear with #of cores increase, due to concurrency resource contention etc etc, at best more like in the squareroot(# cores),
Of course, this is in general, actual gain is application specific (e.g., if many cells dependent on other cell's value being calculated, you cannot parallel them on other cores).
beside, other application and os services also need to take cores instead being exclusive to excel. of course, R7 per core is also faster. but I do not think worth it.

It's totally in stock. I just received a ship confirmation. There is something screwy going on in their backend. I would contact them and tell them you want to speak with sales to cancel your previous order and redo the order. Boom it will ship.

Yeah, they have no customized options 4750ge with baseline in stock until june. Only pre-made machines. Worthless. I cancelled my order. I do not recommend ordering from lenovo. Off my list now.

I cancelled my order today. For some reason my ship date suddenly said June 2021. Customer service was always nice and friendly but something definitely doesn't make sense with the shipment of these machines. Mine was a custom build but it doesn't take that long to piece together these parts that they have laying around. I get up to two weeks but several months? F that!

1) DP to monitor for video
2) HDMI to soundbar for audio. There's an additional screen added 640x480 but you can disable that.
