LG 75" Class (74.5" Diag.) - UN8570 Series - 4K UHD LED LCD TV
$899 from 1/17 - 2/7
Budget tv with current gen gaming console hdmi 2.1 goodness...
and "real" 120hz native refresh.
Rtings dropped the ball on the value of this tv, for its size and gaming input lag, and resolutions supported + price point.
even the 65" @ $629 was enticing me, plus the 82" and 86" are regularly discounted, but glad I waited for the 75". For gaming I love this size now on my Sony 850E and xbox one x / ps4 pro.
Now I'll be ready for the series X, ps4 pro, gaming video cards, etc with 120hz input @ 4k displayed natively whenever I get the source content.
And a reputable brand (been scared to buy a vizio M/P/PQ...) . Plus Costco warranty/return policy...for gaming/ganers, its like this tv was built with that in mind 1st and foremost.
Theres debate if VRR is supported but if not it likely will be. Still a badass 120hz @ 4k / 1440p / 1080p capable tv @ 75" for $899 is hard to beat...
FYI firmware notes mention freesync support
and RTX 30xx improvements:

Saying the tv has Dolby Vision isnt quite accurate either. It can decode the signal and display an interpretation of what it thinks it should look like, but with a low contrast ratio, low brightness and no wide color gamut it really isnt HDR.

Saying IPS can't handle blacks, contrast, or screen uniformity is ridiculous. This TV does all of those things. Maybe it doesn't do them to the extent of other TVs, but you said yourself, it comes down to what you want. My comment was to state what this TV does well as it sits in front of me.
Also, I never said you have to spend 3000$ to get a better picture - that's just false. I said this TV doesn't have the blacks of a 3000$ tv, because of course it doesn't. A VA panel TV in "This price range" doesn't have everything a 3000$ tv does has either. What this TV does have is a 75" screen and the ability to display 4k at 120hz. f you bought a PS5 or a Series X/S and want to use those features, at under 1000$, this is a great option. Thats all I was trying to say. But again, as you said before, It's all about what you want.
P.S. I was completely accurate when I said the TV has Dolby Vision because it does have Dolby Vision, It's a fact. Don't start with all this fake HDR crap either. Don't confuse people. - This is a good TV for the price. We're all just trying to help people looking for a good TV in this price range. In the world we live in today can't that be enough anymore?

The contrast ratio native is 1100 to 1. You should have at least 4500. 6000 ideal.
I seen the LG low contrast TV before in person in a living room and it is beyond acceptable to watch coming from a Samsung tv with inky blacks.
But yes, wow.....super cheap. Great for a bar due to wide viewing angles. Bad for your room at night. And to say I have a bright room, in my area, it gets dark when the sun goes down. And I do not need to turn up the lights to enjoy TV. That is why movie theaters are dark so you can relax and watch TV without other distracting lights,
And the lack of contrast on the cheap LG series is so apparent. If I put my TV against the LG, it will blow it away in terms of punch. Punch in colors comes from contrast.
Yes. cheap. I rather buy a Vizio or TCL and deal with DSE issues versus lack of contrast.
Rtings
As expected from an IPS panel, the LG UN8500 has a low contrast ratio. Blacks appear closer to gray when viewed in the dark. Contrast may vary between units.
Note: The 82 inch model has a VA panel, so we expect it to have a much better contrast.
If you want to get a cheap TV with good picture, get TCL 6 series. Or Samsung series.
LG makes two types. The cheap and the OLED.

PROS
Nice viewing angles
Extremely low input lag
Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision
HDMI 2.1 support
CONS
Mediocre brightness and contrast
HDR is underwhelming
Average color coverage
Audio immersion lacks a lot
$80 is the main difference (and IPS LG vs SAMMY VA panel )
If wide viewing angles /'room layout the LG may be better choice.
For straight on viewing both will be similar and only few ppl will notice a difference
Also i dont think the samsung has hdmi 2.1 or as future proof / next gen game console and e-arc etc ready , so pic features like hdr10+, dolby visiom, etc may differ if these matter to u
e-arc = yes lg, no sammy
Hdr10+ = no LG, yes sammy
Dolby vision = yes LG, no sammy
Hdmi 2.1 (120hz input) = yes LG, no sammy
Dolby atmos earc - yes LG, no sammy

And no, the tv doesnt really do HDR. It doesnt have the hardware to display it. High dynamic range in tvs is the ability to display a very large range between the darkest and brightest points in a scene along with an expanded color gamut. This tv does not have any of the hardware to show HDR. It doesnt have a wide color gamut, it doesnt have a wide contrast ratio and it doesnt get bright at all. Instead it goes into an HDR mode where it interprets the HDR signal and tries to display what it thinks it should look like on screen. Two things will happen depending on the source, either there will be no real difference between SDR mode, or it will put the tv into a awful vivid mode with blown out colors and contrast making everything look inaccurate. You can blame tv manufacturers for confusing consumers into thinking theyre getting a new TV that will look better than their old 4k or 1080p tv they upgraded from.

I'm really not upset. Were both trying to do the same thing. Inform people who are interested with our information. Were just doing it from different angles. You have your specs and overall tv thoughts - and I have personal experience with this set. I hope I helped someone make an informed decision and I hope you did too. Let's leave it at that.
I don't understand why they can discount other lower-priced TV's by $300 bucks on black Friday but this TCL and the similar Hisense (65H8G/9G) don't get discounted more than $50-100 bucks.
People who own this LG I'm sure will praise it, but without a side-by-side comparison to something else, you don't know what you are missing.

People are just so latched onto a +1 rating on Rtngs and think that's going to change their viewing experience 100% better when in all reality, it's only going to make it marginally better.... but unless it's side by side, doubt most people could tell the difference between a low and mid range tv..
