Just checked, it's available. What're you talking about?
Edit: Ok, that's the 5800X, but still, I've seen the 5900X here and there. Still doesn't change the fact that this is certainly not a slick deal.
You said we can get a 5900x for $80 less than this deal. You sent a link for a 5800x thats $80 more than msrp lol. Thats double bad. I asked for the link to the 5900x for $80 cheaper that you said we can get. What you should respond with is, my bad ya thats true the 5900x is not available anywhere right now for $80 less than this deal but maybe it will be in the next few months. But right now this deal is available and i just clicked on the link to make sure. I also just searched for 5900x at $80 cheaper and there are no links for that.
I knew you'd say that, so I took a screenshot. If you'll look at the attached pic, it WAS available at MSRP, $450. Again, I'm not your personal shopper, go find it yourself. I'm sorry, but I don't have time to browse for you. Of course they sell quickly, but I HAVE seen it. And like I said before, that doesn't make this overpriced, outdated TR "slick".
I didnt ask you to shop for me. You said we can get a better deal and I said send the link to this deal and its been 3 replies from you with no link to this unicorn deal you speak of. Amazon has the 5900x for $820 and thats in stock and available. But thats not the $550 deal you mentioned is available to buy. I wish the deal was available though cuz many people would like to buy the 5900x at $550. If AMD can get it in stock it will be a better deal by a long shot!

That second quote is not a quote from me. You lied a few times now. You said we can get this 5900x for $80 less implying you already shopped and found this deal. I just simply asked you to give us the link for the 5900x at $80 less and now its four replies with no link. I suspect you will reply again for a 5th time with no link. You fooled me a few times and even provided a bad link with an overpriced wrong product. I don't expect you to have this link deal available in the next reply. Now can we get back to this deal which is available and I just checked again to see it is available unlike the 5900x for $80 less. Now what i would argue is the 5900x at $820 might still be a better value even though it's grossly overpriced by almost $300. The 5900x is way better in games and i think even multithreaded despite 4 less cores. Another reply incoming with no 5900x @ $550 link.

Help me understand your argument. A standard Ryzen 7 for MSRP is slick, but this TR at 30% under MSRP is not?

I dont think people realize threadripper is the same underlying architecture of the Ryzen. Main difference is more PCIe lanes and Quad channel memory. Core count of course but its still identical Chiplets with the same infinity fabric. All AMD did was disable some features on the Ryzen side.
Threadripper is prosumer because just like Intel HEDT platform, it was suppose to have the highest core count outside of enterprise CPUs. Instead AMD decided 16 is stsndard for Ryzen now and 24+ is prosumer.
However for Threadripper Gen 1 (TR4) this ends at 16 cores. Yes 24 and 32 exist, but it is only for Linux due to how poorly windows handles it. AMD did some shady stuff. Now we have a new Threadripper, new socket and CPU up to 64 Core. It is based on Zen2 (3000 series) ans Zen 3 Threadripper are due out in the summer.
Do NOT buy this CPU for $600. My 5800X is faster in Cinebench R20, Premiere and Blender. I own both.

Yes, that's almost what I'm saying, since the newer chip outperforms the older chip, and is also less expensive. However, I didn't say the newer one was slick at msrp... I said that this chip was a terrible deal at this price, and certainly not slick at all.
You send us all a link to an in stock 5900x that we 'can get for $80 less.' If you get us that link we will all give you a like! I'll wait, but seeing as thats not available, something that is in stock (2950x) but overpriced is sometimes better than a better product (5900x) which is permanently out of stock. We will likely be looking at buying a 6000 series cpu fully released before we can find a 5000 series in stock.

You said we can get it for $80 less and I asked you to send me a link where we could get it. I checked multiple times on AMD's website yesterday and it wasn't in stock there or newegg or best buy or amazon or bh. Millions of people been trying to buy these cpu's and we can't get them. Bots are too fast. Everyone knows the 5900x is not available anywhere. The 5800x has been in stock for brief moments but thats the overpriced cpu. Im not saying its your fault they're out of stock. But you said we can get it and I asked you to send the link and you couldn't produce. We're all waiting on the link of availability for the 5900x from you or amd but it's not available...it's been released for 3 months and it's not available on any retailer to be readily purchased

Let's not forget about quad channel memory on the TRs.
The sTR4 platform is all but dead at this point though. Options for a X399 mobo are already thin and getting worse by the day. If you really need a TR, do yourself a favor and get 3rd gen or newer.
People use TRs to do actual work. It's not for opening up 50 chrome tabs or gaining FPS on your broken copy of Cyberpunk.

My primary system is based on a 2950X. It is a great processor with a lot of life left in it, but I wouldn't recommend anyone actively shop this processor as a "deal". The motherboard is going to cost you $250 minimum but more likely well into the $300-400 range, there is little for an upgrade path, and you can likely get much more performance per $ with a more modern top level Ryzen processor.
