I am looking for 1 more m2 drive.. I have the wd sn850.. I was going to get another one.. but this price is very good for the Samsung.. what do you guys think? Samsung or western digital? I was reading that the Samsung has some caching issues.

check first if your motherboard actually supports full bandwidth for 2 m.2's. a lot of times speeds will be cut in half if you add another m.2 (or so i've heard someone correct me if im wrong)

I have the asus rog 570 strix with a Ryzen 5900x.. already have 1 gen 4 ssd, can some one enlighten me if I get another gen 4 ssd, that speeds will be the same or will speed be reduced?

Before PS5 released, Sony stated that they will release a list of retail SSD products that will be compatible with PS5 for expansion. They will not be SSDs that are branded "Sony" or "PS5". People are waiting for their list of compatible drives. Sony will be releasing a PS5 update this Summer to allow storage expansion.

I've seen mobos where one rail is full speed with a direct route between the drive and the cpu and extra rails besides the primary one have a more circuitous route, meaning only one NVME drive can be used at full potential.

Is it a good idea to buy something like this to use with SATA adapter in an older machine until i can afford to build something new? I don't want to invest in 2.5" SSD drives anymore.

You can likely get a PCIe to M.2 adapter instead so you'll be able to get more speed from it. You'll want either a heatsink and/or active cooling if possible since these drives can get pretty hot and throttle. I think ASUS has quad port 8x/16x PCIe 3.0/4.0 adapter for around $60-90. However there plenty of cheaper adapters (not sure about quality) for under $30. Might be worth looking into that instead of a SATA adapter to get better speed out of it, since some older computers have a free PCIe 8x slot.

If you can only use SATA, there might be some similar options, but you'll lose any benefits from the additional speed. It's not a bad idea, but you might as well wait for until you actually need one before spending money on this drive. There are other cheaper M.2 drives that might be better served by the purpose you're looking into such as the WD Black or Samsung 970 Evo Plus, and a myriad of other NVME drives on the market.

how much better are these then lets say this from microcenter for 189 currently?

Inland Platinum 2TB SSD 3D QLC NAND M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe 3.0 x4 M.2 Internal Solid State Drive

Im sure the samsung is faster but for 100 bucks more is it worth it?

For most people, a 2TB 970 Evo Plus for half the price is better. Most people do real world stuff, not run benchmarks all day.

x570 chipset supports 2 PCIe 4 nvnes might be more with your mobo

B550 is only 1 pcie 4

that's not bad honestly. i had to buy nvme's recently and i just settled for an sk hynix gold drive, pretty similar to the 970 evo plus as i'm aware. didn't need to juice out the last bit of performance when there's plenty of competitive products in the mid range.
