I have the Gaggia Classic pro and love it. I have never owned a Breville, but my in laws have a Breville Barista Express that I've used on a few occasions. I don't think it pulls nearly as good a shot as my Gaggia. Considering Gaggia is quite a bit less expensive and has a such a great reputation for durability, I think it's the way to go.

Breville Espresso machines are pretty well-made (supposedly internal Italian parts and assembled in China) and are of great value due to their price points. I have the Barista Express and had an issue with the low temperature hot water at the extraction (175-180 degree average) head and Breville ended up sending me a replacement and the machine has been working "perfectly" for the past 6 months (brew temperature is around 190 degrees; makes a world of difference in freshly freshly ground and brewed beans).

Breville's customer service is top-notch and very helpful. The only "downside" of their customer service department is the wait time. When I called, 100% of the time, I received a recording where it's best to leave your phone number and calls are returned between 45 - 90 minutes. So, you'll have to be "ready" when they call back. They are quite helpful and very fair from there.

Breville refurbished machines are excellent, but with such a small price difference I'd recommend going new.

Generally speaking, every coupon I've ever gotten from BBBY specifically excludes Breville brand equipment (along with 3/4 of the rest of the store), and when browsing online Breville items have the "Excluded from coupons" tag.

I've never been able to successfully apply a 20% off coupon to a Breville item, even asking nicely.in person. They just say it's excluded and decline to apply the coupon.

Anyone care to share any tips?
Maybe it's just the store, but I've ordered lots of Breville stuff in store for home delivery and they've always taken the coupons. I don't think I've been turned down once.

Thanks. How much would you say is a good price? I want one but its quite a bit of money.
The Barista Express has been down as low as $480 in the last ~6 months. I would say $500 is a "good deal" for that model. $600 was just the regular price. Don't know if/when those prices will return, so it depends on how desperate you are for the machine.

Should I pick these expensive China made espresso machines instead of the cheaper Italy made ones ?

If you all can get by with a low end machine, I have a DeLonghi BAR32 Retro that I use with ESE pods that has been rock solid for the last 6 years. ESE pods are pre measured espresso in filter paper that just pops in the basket. Maybe not as nice as ground espresso, but way easier and more convenient. Way better than k-cups for sure.

Silvia is a nice machine, but I am not sure about 'for life' part. Many people who buy Silvia switch to HX or dual boiler machine within a couple of years.
As its repairable, life is reasonable (sans upgrade fever)

consider checking out FB marketplace / other marketplaces for lightly used machines. either people get really into espresso and upgrade or it's too much work and want to sell

I called the customer service and they let me to apply the 20% coupon. Guess I'm just lucky.
You are lucky. The fine print on BBB 20% off one item coupon says no go for Breville.

Offer excludes the following: Amazon, Arlo, AS IS, August Home, Baby Jogger®, Babyletto™, BABYZEN™, Belkin WeMo, Beyond Deal, Bliss Lights, BOB®, Breville®, Britax®... Etc

Owner for 5 years. These are well worth their money. No issues so far.

Make sure you clean them per instructions every 6 months at the very least, preferably every 3 depending on the hardness of water you have. I always use filtered water and haven't had issues.

I've had my old-school (no screen) version of this unit for going on 7 years now. It has been used to grind and pull at least three double shots/day, every day, over almost that entire period of time. It has worked flawlessly--a little too well, in fact. My wife was always a big coffee drinker, but this has turned her into a literal caffeine addict.

If you ever have to clean the grinder (I did it once simply because I felt like I should, not because anything stopped working), watch out for the little felt ring that goes under the gears. The moment I touched it, it completely disintegrated in its old age and I had to order another one, which Breville fortunately had in stock.

It is an excellent machine, but the old school version used to go on sale once or twice a year for $400-450. I'm honestly not seeing $150-200 worth of improvements on this model over the old one--they will both make the exact same quality espresso. At $400, they were a great deal. At $600, you're treading on the territory of superior machines.
