I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

I dont think they are a waste of money. Also, my motorcycle had gotten totaled in 2018. I had(still do) PTSD from the accident so I decided to lease a car for the time being meanwhile I figure out whether I was going to give up riding or not. Honestly, leasing has been such a great experience. I remember the bucket I had in my teens would cause me all sorts of issues and required me to put in thousands to fix. This is why I didnt want a car, the price of maintenance. Leasing has taken this fear away as I can have a brand new car pretty much forever. Eventually I will end up buying a car but for right now, I am good with leasing.
You should find a good mechanic that can help you diagnose a lemon. With a lease, you are paying extra for having a new car every few years. Even if you factor in maintenance, owning is the wiser financial move over the long haul. Learn to make your own repairs and it will be even cheaper. Don't let one lemon affect your financial decisions the rest of your life.

Agreed. Best case scenario is uber and public transit. But many people choose to live in areas that require a car or else life is extremely inconvenient.

I already have the CSR since 2016.
I also already have the Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Freedom Flex, and Amazon.

Is it possible for me to downgrade my CSR to any of their other no fee cards in order to take advantage of this offer?

It looks like the other no fee cards would include Slate Edge, Disney Visa, United Gateway, and Marriott Bonvoy Bold.

You can only make product changes within the same family of cards (cards based on the same point system). In the case of your Sapphire Reserve, that would be those cards based on the Ultimate Rewards point system: Sapphire, Freedom, Slate and their variants.

Is there a way to know for sure when I got the previous sign-on bonus for the Sapphire? I do not have one anymore but had it around 4 years ago... My previous 08/28/17 - 09/27/17 statement shows shows "+ New cardmember bonus 50,000" but does not give a specific date for the bonus. The purchase amount that triggered the bonus was made on 8/28. Does this mean that I can already apply (being after 8/28) or do I need to wait until 9/28/2021 to apply for the new one in order to qualify for the 100k bonus? Or do I have to wait even longer until the date the 9/27/17 statement was paid off? Thank you.

Why risk it? Just wait 2 weeks and do it on 9/28th.

You should be clear to apply on September 28, provided you meet Chase's other application criteria.

The 48-month time period begins upon bonus award (statement date), not the purchase date that put you over the spend limit nor the date you paid the statement.

Thank you. I called today and was able to downgrade my CSR to Freedom Flex.
I can already see that the CSR account details have been transferred over to the new card when I log into my Chase account.

This post heresays it takes about 5-7 days for the downgrade to complete and that I should wait to apply for the CSP until then. However if I can already see the details of the new card in my account wouldn't the downgrade be considered to be complete?

Or should I just play it safe and wait until my new card arrives in the mail before applying for CSP? I just want to make sure that I don't miss the window on the offer since the expiration date is unknown.

Your quoted post was posted a month ago. 5 to 7 days is kind of outdated now. I will try to update the post. My apologies. More recent DP's show that the wait time is now closed to two weeks. The new card showing up on your Chase account online doesn't necessarily mean you have cleared off the old Sapphire card on Chase system. You should really be patient in the waiting game. If you apply too soon before your old CSR account data dropping off from Chase system, you will get auto denied and will have to deal with Chase's Recon Dept later, or your banker simply cannot sign you up when applying in branch.

Unfortunately, the fact that you can see the Freedom Flex card does not mean that the Sapphire Reserve card has cleared the system.

If you're applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card online, I'd suggest that you wait at least 4-7 days after making the product change.

If you're applying for the CSP at any of the Chase Bank branch offices, you should wait 1 to 2 weeks after making the product change.

Chase does not officially restrict the number of their credit cards that you can hold, but rather a cap on the overall credit limit they are willing to extend to you, and you can no longer apply for two Chase cards at the same time due to the 2/30 rule in addition to the 5/24 rule. The general rule of thumb is to limit applications to one personal and one business card within 90 days [thepointsguy.com].

There are extensive DP's showing that Chase will either auto deny the 2nd card, or approve it but cancel the 2nd account soon after [reddit.com] (while reporting the account/counting it toward 5/24).
Thanks for the info. I had my SO applied for this chase sapphire getting 100k points and will be having her apply for the citi premier for another 80k. We have a big spending coming up, making use of these to get 180k in points.

After downgrading from Chase Sapphire Reserve, in branch applications were taking about 1-2 weeks to clear according to my last tally on 8/27/2021:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=149341894&postcount=4182

I didn't keep track of how long it took to clear online applications because they seemed to be taking much quicker .. something on the order of twice as fast.

Since 8/27/2021, more data points have been added. This time, I also kept a tally of online applications.

Note: The reports denoted as "> __ days" are of limited value. They simply report failures at certain point in time. The applicant never reported back. So, it is not known when those applications were eventually approved.

Also, the days reported are not necessarily the length of time it took to clear. Instead, they represent when the applicants were successful in applying for the card. In many instances, it's likely that the applicant would have reached success sooner, if he had tried.

* * * * *

Overall, I'd posit that the clearance times remain the same between the current count and the 8/27 tally:

1 to 2 weeks for in-branch applications

4 to 7 days for online applications.

Standard leases are three years. If you need a brake job within three years of brand new, you need to adjust your driving technique. Plus leases limit the amount of miles you can travel. Drive more than that, and for sure you'll pay way more than owning.

Again, there are factors like residual value that can make leasing more appealing. But you'll never come out ahead financially over the long haul.
Damn Lexus with performance sports brakes - they do not effen last, and they were freakin expensive.

Maybe if you keep a car over 5 years. And now KBB values are unusally higher on used cars so not a good time to judge but if you keep a car for 3 years, you can end up better off than buying

I agree on saving money if you can do your own repairs but thats not for everyone

I have a CSR from 3 years ago and looking to get this deal by downgrading to a Chase Freedom, waiting 2 weeks and then applying in Branch. The problem is I've made a few big purchases recently and intend on doing at least one return. How does that work? If I downgrade, I assume I'm going to get a new credit card number so how will a return for the CSR get processed if the CSR account is no longer active?
