good enough for productivity use. do know, however, that with only 8gb of RAM, if you are running an application that exceeds 8gb of RAM usage, it'll start swapping with SSD which can quickly wear your SSD out.

Also the MacBook Pro has all 8 cores unlocked while the air has 7 cores available on its M1. But yeah, from what I've seen the performance difference is negligible… so unless you really want the touch bar (Have it on my 16" and "meh", I wouldn't pay extra for it) and the active cooling, MacBook Air is a better deal. Also, I miss using a MacBook Air because the wedge chassis I feel is actually more comfortable for typing than the MacBook Pro brick shape… but 16" screen is sweet lol. Just got my grandparents the Gold MacBook Air yesterday to replace a 10 year old MBP.
the air also has an 8-core gpu version.

Just about to pull the trigger - anything else I should know to sweeten the deal (like free airpod or case etc)?

Thanks - but discover doesn't have warranty extension, right?

Same experience here. Spent 26 minutes on the phone, most of which on hold while the representative "looked into it", to be told that since I already bought at "such a discounted price", there would be no price match. I said I would just buy a new one and return the more expensive one, and she said sure, you can bring it back to the store. What a waste of money and resources for Best Buy to end up with all these open box laptops instead of just refunding the $50!

Edited to add: post typed up on the MacBook Air that will be returned to Best Buy after the new cheaper one gets delivered on Friday
has anyone run into this and try to get a price match through a new chat session? My first chat support rep gave me the "can't price match with a discount" bs

Shame that hasn't changed much. For my kids to have a cheap machine that's mostly secure, I'd consider it. Again though, I'd never buy one for more than $300. I remember when you could snag one for $120-150 (not sure if that's still the case) but that's about what that OS is worth to me. It's the new netbook.
I agree... btw, I also picked one of the $100 models and it performs about the same. Screen temps are way off, audio quality (speaker or headphones) are weak as heck and the extensions blow out the bass without tweaking, and it's slow.

Said thing is, I actually like the $100 model more since it has more weight, feels like it will last longer, and the celeron processor runs cooler. The $100 model even runs as a 2-in-1 and has a built in pen. Plus, the battery lasts like 5-6 hours vs 3.

Called back and got a different person who gave me the 49.99+tax credit, so I'd recommend trying again!

On the phone the agent denied at first, after a little effort he was able to check back and told me this is a one time exemption. Got the difference back.

I gave the chat rep all zeroes. Trying again since I see others were able to get it. He told me I paid less than the new price even AFTER I placed a new order showing the $50 reduction in price. Why would I try to price match a higher price?!
