Alternatively: there will always be new stuff coming. I don't believe those Intel numbers until I see them (see the last 10 years). DDR5 won't be notably better than DDR4 for another few years in terms of performance/$. Plus there will be some early adopter bugs/issues and with supply chain issues, I don't see price getting much better for another year or so.

In my experience, better to buy into a platform late when things are stable instead of being a guinea pig testing out the new stuff for a year or two. Just my 2c.
Why no love for the deal? $445 is incredible.
Intel has had a history of issues at launch, just like AMD. I've pretty much swapped back and forth with every major update since my i5 870. I actually had less issues with both my 3700x and 5800x than I had with my 8700k.

Regardless, since this has nothing to do with what's better, I disagree with waiting unless you're truly in no rush.

If you can wait, do it. It is literally always better to wait, there is no exception. But we have no idea how anything in the future is going to perform, regardless of "past leaks". We also have no idea about supply. Or bugs. Or literally anything.

When on the other hand you have one of the best all around processors on the market for over $100 off MSRP. I wouldn't hesitate recommending a new AM4 build with this.

Any recommendations for a board?

I like this one, but it is very expensive (over $400). My plan is to have a very robust photo and video editing system, and this motherboard looks like a good way forward for my interests.

The Gigabyte Aero G is an X570s motherboard specifically targeted at content creators. It goes for $350 if you want to consider it.

AM4 is a dead platform, Alder Lake (Intel 12th gen) launches in October and is heavily rumored to beat Zen3 by 20% in single thread and 10% in multi thread, and gets you on a new platform that supports DDR5 and pcie5.0. Even if you dont end up buying Intel 12th gen, AMD will be forced to do more price cuts to respond as Zen4 launches late 2022.

Point is, now is a bad time to buy a CPU, especially if you dont already own an AM4 board with DDR4.
So the Paypal $75 coupon expires in 3 days. Anything else good to buy at B&H? Just some high level opinions

Used the deal to get $75 off the 5800x @$393. Should be compatible with my ASRock x470 Taichi board and a noticable upgrade to my 2700x that I'll be able to repurpose or sell.

Also I think the $75 may be after taxes.

I agree with you. I typically build computers with processors and motherboards that have been sold for at least a year. That scheme usually allows me to get products with fewer bugs and for less money than when they are first released. After I build a system the only component I ever change is the graphics card.

Thank you. I've been looking at the 5900x and most of sellers want over $550 on facebook market. Mine turns $495 after tax.
