2 months is nothing in terms of waiting. Zen 3 is almost a full year old at this point. If someone awaited this long to by a 5900x they can wait 2 months.

In terms of performance, one of the most reliable leakers in the industry leaked Alder Lake performance for cinebench before Intel did, and the numbers match up. Other leakers have confirmed similar performance. If you look at Rocket Lakes launch, the same leakers were saying it wouldnt be good, so there is credibility there.

As far as DDR5, at LAUNCH it will be better because DDR5 can read and write simultaneously and has other benefits that you cant compare with just the 'speed' number, but even so Amazon already had one listing DDR5 teamgroup 4,800mhz 2x16GB $310, it sold out instantly. Look at PCpartpicker, similar spec'd DDR4 will cost you $400+

And if we are talking about stability issues, how long did it take AMD to 'fix' the very common USB issues plaguing Zen 3? 6 months? And people still have issues. Im sure Alder Lake will have some quirk of its own, but historically Intel has been the far more stable and reliable platform, hence why you see stuff like NASA favoring Intel Xeons despite being worse performance over Epyc.
Intel has had a history of issues at launch, just like AMD. I've pretty much swapped back and forth with every major update since my i5 870. I actually had less issues with both my 3700x and 5800x than I had with my 8700k.

Regardless, since this has nothing to do with what's better, I disagree with waiting unless you're truly in no rush.

If you can wait, do it. It is literally always better to wait, there is no exception. But we have no idea how anything in the future is going to perform, regardless of "past leaks". We also have no idea about supply. Or bugs. Or literally anything.

When on the other hand you have one of the best all around processors on the market for over $100 off MSRP. I wouldn't hesitate recommending a new AM4 build with this.

Why post an original price item with a sidewise coupon as a "deal"?
If this made it a good buy then there are few thousand items good buy.
Probably because most of the stuff on BH drops well below MSRP other places but things like PC parts don't normally go on much of a sale. Same could be said of a few things there, but personally I'd consider all of those deals.

The PayPal/Mastercard/Amex coupons get frontpage all the time, don't see how this is different pointing out a specific product.

Yesterday the B&H price for the 5900X was $569, and I believe it was $549 at Amazon. The price at B&H dropped $50 today, and after the coupon it seems to be the cheapest place to get that CPU right now.

478 after tax thank you, Be aware that the final total from B&H was the original price +tax, but when I went to Paypal it showed the coupon savings price for that transaction. Weird.

Alternatively: there will always be new stuff coming. I don't believe those Intel numbers until I see them (see the last 10 years). DDR5 won't be notably better than DDR4 for another few years in terms of performance/$. Plus there will be some early adopter bugs/issues and with supply chain issues, I don't see price getting much better for another year or so.

In my experience, better to buy into a platform late when things are stable instead of being a guinea pig testing out the new stuff for a year or two. Just my 2c.
Of course you guys were saying the exact opposite when the shoe was on the other foot and it was new AMD CPUs and boards and you were pooping on Intel. It's kind of weird how that works.

I still haven't upgraded from Windows XP, the most stable Windows of them all.
You have got to be joking right?

Obviously you missed out on the rest of the stable, up to date and secure tech world.

How did you get the price match to work? is that a BH policy guaranteed to work?

I'm thinking about canceling the order. They are purposefully not matching because of the coupon. Also, remember their returns are not free like amazon or Bestbuy.

I anyway got to hold out for the case and mb and if amazon drops it by $25 more I'm returning just to prove my point to B&H for not matching the current retail price.

Why do you assume this poster was one of the people doing that? It's disingenuous to act as though anyone who disagrees with you on this just *has* to be a hypocrite who made your same argument when the roles were reversed.

I hope Alder Lake is as good as they say, that would be great. The 5900x is a great CPU right now, and given how hard it's been to source parts (and that we're heading into a second winter of Covid with another surge already happening), it's hard to know how easy it's going to be to source anything. This is an aggressive deal on one of AMD's best chips, and the 2nd fastest chip on the market today.

Damn, even though I've had mine for a few months, still jealous of this price. Paid $550
