Per CCC, best price yet, equal to holiday / Black Friday pricing last year.
*Edit: I can find no indication that the controller swap affects this 2TB model.

Note that Samsung potentially swapped the original controller (reported on 1TB model) but Amazon still lists the drive with original Phoenix controller. However the change is likely helpful for most users due to pairing with a larger SLC cache, only hurting performance on sustained writes beyond SLC cache size (115 GB on replacement 1TB model; ?? for 2TB). New controller may run hot also.

No. Ps5 must be gen4. and u should wait anyway. The extended storage is in beta. And sony is using players as free testers. For real. Wait for the bugs and errors to be worked out.

Have you done a comparison to sk hynix p31 2tb version? Im curious on the performance.
I have not. But keep in mind Samsung 970 has top reviews and samsung makes the controller themselves.

I found this. But samsung also updated controller on 970 plus . https://www.tomshardware.com/revi...d-review/2

Yep, there 2 slots. Pcie 4 and 3. The pcie 4 spot has a pcie 3 slow ssd though. But I need more space

So I ordered the 970 evo plus. Should I load the os onto it? Or just toss all the games/steam files onto the 970 and call it a day? Leaving os on the slower ssd
Pop that os on 970. I looked at your link. Just use slower one for backup and storage. Im using x570 pcie gen4 mb. 970 is main drive in and it is awesome.

This is the best gen3 drive. Also Samsung updated controller on this drive making it more efficient. I test and review heatsinks for nvme alot. 970 Evo plus is main Gen3, 2nd to XpG s11 for comparison. It runs cooler under load ,bench mark, stress test. You do not need a heatsink. FYI Laptop users. If your in the market for nvme get this. Gen 4 is over rated for normal or gaming. Even new gen 4 7000mbps will only give a second or two faster for every day users and they run much hotter.
I agree. There is a point when cost and value meet and this Gen 3 will handle gaming for several more years. I would advise to invest in a Gen 4 mobo to help future proof your build.

think I should just buy 970 over a 980 pro? I mean it is a pcie 4 slot, not being utilized on my laptop. I can pick any ssd to fill it. 980 at a higher cost, or 970 in the 3 pcie slot, and maybe when 980 pro's drop in price, I could just swap the main SSD out and reload the os on that when time comes.

but to be honest, my laptop is pretty damn beefy.

this is the laptop I bought

and I ordered 32gb of ram but amazon sent me 64. - this is using 200mhz vram and cpu boost on the msi center without it, its like 9200 time spy score. but it got 9797 times with the small overclock of 200mhz

question, if I have a OS on my current laptop, and an unfilled NVME(samsung 970) in my 2nd slot. is there any reason why I can't just turn laptop on, and use the "samsung magical" to clone the entire OS from the already installed SSD onto my new SSD?

that would be a lot easier than fresh install, I don't have anything on my pc except a few games, already wiped all the bloatware and everything.

then all I would have to do is simply turn off pc, swap the cards around, OR, go to bios and have it boot from the new SSD and I could wipe the old SSD/slower one and use for storage.

If my current SSD is C drive, can I clone the 2nd drive as "c drive as well"? or will that be an issue.

edit. watching a video with that samsung magician, seems pretty legit. basically install the 2nd in empty slot, (empty drive) and close all programs, and click clone. should clone everything over just fine, once I verify it all works as OS, I can just wipe old one.

Thanks, got one from Samsung. Also, got a pop up on the product page for $15.99 in cash back from Honey browser extension using Edge. I had to email them about the $50 from my Watch 4 purchase, but did manage to get it easily with just 1 email. I can do that again if I don't automatically get the $16 this time. Net $209 before tax. Not bad.

Still waiting to replace my 1TB NVMe SSD I bought three years ago for $69. Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron stop colluding to milk the consumer at 1-2TB kkthx. We are ready to be cheated at 8-32TB.
