If you're just looking for cheap & relatively good,
1: the HD 10 current version goes on sale for around $75-$99 often
2: the HD 10 older version is available for $74 now though compared to the new HD 10 sale price that's not that good of a discount.

Otherwise for an 8 inch fire HD, yeah, this is decent, but has a much worse (resolution etc) screen than the HD10, and half the processor cores, so if the price difference is like $20-30-$40 depending on which HD8 and HD10 one compares maybe the HD10 options are better for future proofing, better capabilities, etc.

Don't expect these to compete with ipads or samsung tablets.
These are just better alternative to the no-name trash Chinese tablets from aliexpress/wish/amazon.

If you have correct expectations, these are good. and for $55 vs original $80-100, this is a good gift option.

Why do people downvote the truth. Do not expect these to compete with ipad or samsung tablets. However, they are definitely MUCH better than no-name trash tablets, and you get a pretty decent support. Also you can trade them in for $10 + 25% off (is this still going on)

The screen is ok.... The issue with this tablet is the CPU GPU is just too weak, the HD 10 is the minimum specs for a nice android experience... IMHO. On sale for 75ish, it's a no brainer.

I got one for each of my kids (all HD 8 Plus). The one that was not an Xmas present, the HD 8 Plus is significantly faster than the older generation it replaced; so much so that I am actually surprised for once. I definitely think this is a good buy for kiddos and maybe even someone who just wants a fairly decent tablet for the price.

Also, use the Fire Toolbox from XDA to unlock the true performance of this tablet. I use this software regularly whenever I get an Amazon Fire tablet of any size or type. It is easy to use and makes these tablets run much better than OEM.

Make sure buy the tablet without Amazon Ad lock screen. Ads is very annoying. My kids hated it. Hope this helps!

Definitely get the FH 10.

I know that the FH 10 is suppose to be refreshed in early 2022 with a P60T CPU/GPU... it is about 20% faster for CPU speed and about 3% faster with GPU speed. So I don't even see this being such a big upgrade.

If you are a gamer, it is recommended by some to get the 4GB model. But I would personally buy the cheapest FH 10 model you can buy.
