This TV is the 2021 Model and has HDMI 2.1. An excellent TV for gaming on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

I would put this TV on the same level as the Hisense U8G.

Yes it should be. I have the U6G which is suppose to be a bit better then the u6gr and I'm returning it for this TCL one. The U6G screen looks to washed out, colors are lacking.

I have a Hisense TV with the Google OS and it's glitchy as hell. I have a Chromecast Google TV hub I bought for $50 and plugged that in and works great so the issue is not Google TV it's Hisense/TCL and other manufacturers not implementing Google TV right and they usually don't include enough memory on the TV either to handle the OS and all the apps people want to install. Best thing to do is just buy your streaming device. Even my Chromecast is running out of memory after installing a dozen apps or so. Going forward will just have to buy a Nvidia shield streaming device, they work perfect and tons of memory/processing power to handle everything.

For gaming the U8G overall seems better rated, also deciding between the two, just not sure its worth the extra upcharge.

I'm in the same boat. I think for 55" the TCL may be better because of known issues in the 55" U8G. In 65" I would do the UG8 for sure.

I got the U8G during the small window best buy had it for $700 and am very happy with it. I have last year's 6 series and am happy with that too but I heard the software sucks on this year's model and it and it got rated slightly worse in picture quality than the hisense but better than last year's tcl.
