This thing wasn't worth $500 at any point in this model's history. I hate it when they gaslight consumers with that bull.

Actually, it looks like you can get the same from Samsung directly, and if you have both an Education account with them and a 10% popular cashback site, the total cost is about $177 after CA tax.

Estimated Tax $15.25

Actually credit goes to you for posting the redd it info in the other Samsung thread. I was just relaying it here after I bought the ssd through the honey activation link for this ssd. yeah I don't see anything in honey at all today but it say upto 14 days; also my order is still in process. Hope honey comes through. Again thank you for posting.

Pro is gen 4. This is gen 3. Double the speed. You will notice a slight differents and it works with ps5, the 970 doesnt work witb ps5. For $50 difference. I would go with the 980pro. Even if you use it in gen 3 motherboard it runs alot cooler and effecient than the evo ar same speed
Good reply. I think a suggested practice regarding these NVME drives, is to notate in the details the generation (PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 NVMe 1.3) and the (read and write performance levels of up to 3,500MB s and 3,300MB).

Having that information up front, will help SD buyers make informed decisions depending on the application and need.

This. I was just going to say this is a very confusing post since all the feedback is for 170-180 deal!

According to Keepa, its steady price is around $220, and has been at the $199 price point. The highest price for this was $500 when it came out in June 2019, but to say this price is everyday $500 is ludicrous

All the forums I've read about 970 evo controller swap has been confirmed and it's a crap shoot which controller you will end up with even in 2022. Chip shortages and older supplier inventory makes it very hard to tell you're receiving the newest 970 evo.

I heard the same, but without a large sample size, I don't have a way to confirm.

So yeah, ymmv. "Crap shoot."

There is no real difference between right? Just a speed difference on a chart, nothing actually noticeable in daily use.
nope, not that i can see. only when i copy from nvme to nvme. really great marketing though, convincing people to jump on board thinking everything will load and operate 10 times faster.

If you're considering the model's entire history, then it has. It was released at $499 in 2020. You can find records of it being on sale for $349, $150 off, on Amazon back in July 2020. So Amazon technically isn't lying, but still being sleazy.

I mean to say that $250 per TB has always been an extremely terrible value- it's would always have been a terrible value at $175/TB too. What blows my mind is how people have been suckered into thinking that these drives somehow justify the price premium.
