10$ cheaper isn't worth the shitshow that is NewEgg. BB has never screwed me over, NewEgg on the other hand ...

Good price for a good CPU. I just bought this exact one (delivered last week) for a new build. Contacted NewEgg chat and they're emailing me a $60 gift card for the price difference. I normally don't like gift cards (NewEgg GCs expire in 90 days), but I still need to buy a copy of Windows 11 Pro and some LEDs so this will help offset the cost.

I don't know what's "suspect" about NewEgg @SeanFrank. I just ordered about $2K worth of parts and everything came through perfectly and ahead of schedule. I've used NewEgg for years and never had any issues.

I gave this a thumbs up given the current cpu/gpu market but intel had an i7 920 4 core 8 thread cpu in 2008 for ~$330. If you told me then AMD and Intel would be trying to charge me $440 as a 'sale' for a 12 core cpu 14 years laters I would have laughed. This should be a 32 core 64 thread cpu for $330 but it is what it is.
An i7-920 has 731 million transistors.

A 5900X has 4.15 billion transistors.

It takes a ton of R&D to build faster CPUs with higher thread counts in the same amount of die space at similar power requirements.

Inflation also should be in consideration.

Search for GamerNexus and Newegg drama. Tldr Newegg scammed him, then refused to refund.

Do you think major online retailers actively scam their customers on purpose?

Or you could compare performance like 2,732 vs 39,485 on CPU Mark instead of focusing on something silly like core count. It has the performance of about 56 of those old cores... so, (32/56)×$440=~$250 for your 32 core 64 threads from the wayback machine. So, it's actually an even better deal than you imagined! Awesome!

*CPU Mark isn't flawless, but it is a metric for a decent comparison

You missed my point, I was saying after 14 years we should be getting 32 core 64 thread cpu's and each core with the performance of the 5900x cores. 14 years is a loooong time to increase core counts and performance per core. I don't want 32 i7 920 cores 14 years later lol. Their billions in R&D allow for this but they would rather trickle out small incremental updates to maximize profits and screw us. Luckily AMD realized Intel was stagnating the market mainly on quad cores and hired Jim Keller to create higher core count zen parts but I'm saying they can afford to give us the 32 core threadripper parts for $440 but instead they give us the 12 core part. I know you prolly think AMD and Intel cant afford to sell the 32 core parts that cheap and im saying that is malarkey lol. They just dont want to. Just like intel came out with the 11700k and tried to charge more than 10900k older gen which beat it lol. Sadly some people bought that 11700k cpu and intel knew there would be suckers just like amd knows there will be suckers that think this $440 deal for 12 core 5900x is a great deal. Im not saying its our consumers fault cuz we can only buy whats offered so i give this deal thumbs up but its a shame cuz amd and intel should be offering more per dollar by now...same with the gpu market...nvidia is the worst at this incremental update while overcharging nonsense and coronavirus/bitcoin is putting this all on steroids.
