Amazon Treasure Truck had the 4k for $29 a couple weeks back and I grabbed one.

I like the Roku interface so much better than the Firestick. The search feature for movies is something I really like as it tells me when a movie I like is available on one of the apps I have. Beyond that the menu is better organized and searching for apps seems easier. Roku much much better than Firestick in my opinion.

Same.

If anyone is looking at the 4k stick and trying to figure out the difference between it and the 4k+ stick it's only that the plus model has the rechargable pro remote. While the 4k stick is on sale for $40 it's actually like $1 cheaper to buy the 4k stick and pro remote separately than buy the 4k+ stick, plus you get a spare remote!

Thanks OP. Gave my Chromecast 4K to my mother-in-law today but forgot I can't AirPlay on my LG C9 for some reason so had to scoop something that would allow me to. Not bad, although the Chromecast UI felt smoother to me.

Thanks picked one up. Have a slow TV from target with Roku and its too slow. Make sure if you are using the 10 off for pick up that you use the pick up location first before entering the promo code.

Thanks! The cheapo Walmart house brand ONN Smart TV I have for my kitchen is so slow and freezes often... Worth the $30 to make it functional.
I've wondered about the quality of those TVs.
I live on the North Shore of an Island in the Tropics, so no television is going to last due to the salt in the air, so I don't spend the money on more expensive Sony or Samsung units.
I have a new series 65 inch TCL in my living room but an older Roku in the bedroom and I'll buy this for the voice remote and better connectivity.

Has anyone and/or Roku ever figured out why you can't get Dolby Digital 5.1 to properly pass through to a soundbar?

Even this latest Roku still outputs silence if you force DD/DD+ settings, and leaving it on auto defaults to PCM on every streaming service. (And yes, my soundbar supports it and my TV passes those through with no issue with any Firestick I've ever had.)

Fire TV 4K Max at $35 if available is probably the best deal out there for a stick device. If you want to go boxes maybe the Roku Ultra

What issue are you running into? I use Plex through Roku all the time so I'm curious.

Has to do with the audio encoding so it will hang at 33% after playing for a bit then crash. Many threads on it on Reddit and Roku forum. I am not good with encoding so what ever it is on default is what it is. Chromecast seems to have no issues playing back this encoding.

Weird. I have had a ton of problems with Plex on Chromecast over the years. Mostly with casting just being broken, or not disconnecting properly, or various other issues. My Roku hasn't given me any problems that weren't directly related to something being messed up on my server. I got two 4K+ devices as an intro to Roku the day I turned in my cable box last summer and have never regretted it. Sometimes it's a bit chunky. I assume a higher end device wouldn't have such issues, but overall it's a great little device for $30. I've almost completely stopped using my Chromecasts since getting them (still prefer them for YouTube streaming).

Chromecast with Android is mainly what I use so I dont cast as much. Mainly Plex is my main go to. Are you using Plex app often? Its mainly due to I don't recode my media.

You're probably encountering a quirk with the TV. I'm guessing it's going roku->TV->Soundbar?
Which tv do you have?

It's no quirk. Issue doesn't exist with any other connected devices, only the Rokus I've owned.

TV is a Vizio 4K, only a year old or so. Audio output is set to digital, etc. Fire Stick, Xbox One, even an old PS3 all output the proper Dolby. Roku only outputs PCM.

Its actually a pretty well known annoyance if you search Roku forums or even Reddit.
