Highly recommend these.

I got a set of the black ones about 6 months ago and they have been problem-free. I work in IT and these have a surprising number of advanced features - much more than you get from the competitors.

I've used many other mesh systems including Velop, Orbi, Eero, and Google wifi. None of them can compare to the speeds and reliability that I've seen from the XT8's. Picking up another set for my parents house!

yes.

work in IT, went on a 2 year buying spree. ended up eventually moving towards a mikrotik custom wifi ap setup.

these are effing fantastic - feature rich, remotely managable, and allow for network segregation and in multiple bands. 6000sq ft property in a congested residential area.
so are you saying the XT8's are fantastic or the mikrotik setup you did?

I've owned a bunch of mesh systems over the years... Velop, TP Link, Netgear before ultimately landing on this one. Of the ones previously mentioned every single one ultimately had some kind of issue that ultimately led to it being retired. The XT8 is a beast. It has a traditional web interface with full functionality (I'm looking at you TP Link), it has a great app if you want to use it (voluntarily, not mandatory), it has a great collection of "advanced features" often left out of consumer grade Mesh systems. Asus works on the firmware constantly, sometimes things briefly get worse before they get better, but unlike my Velop that seemed to get one update a year Asus is very very active on these and takes feedback and incorporates it.

Key Differentiators:
Can use seperare/split SSID's
Can use dedicated channel for hub to hub
2.5 Gig etherent jack for modem connection (important for those on fiber or high speed cable)
160 Mhz can be used for that dedicated hub to hub *BUT* you CAN open it up for client use if you intend to do wired backhaul
Wired backhaul capable
etc etc etc.

Yes, it's spendy, Yes there are FAR cheaper options, Yes they might work for you, but if you have struggled with other Mesh systems in the past give this one a shot, it's the only one that has survived my needs for more than a year and I paid full price.

I just got the AX3000 and so far have really been pleased with it. Super easy to set-up and no issues with connections dropping.

How does one run one of these mesh setups when you have several hardwired devices you'd like to keep hardwired?
You have to buy a switch and use that along with the mesh to wire everything into it.

If you dont care about tinkering and just want a network that works without any special modifications and you want the fastest speeds and better coverage cause of the 3rd unit the TP-Link Deco is the better option.

If you want the ability to completely customize the network, change channel, separate the bands, have premium AV/Parental controls included in price go with the Asus.

My case was different. Sometimes it wouldn't allow you connecting to router remotely.... "Unable to connect". Had to reset the unit serval times.

Parent Control (Family): It often doesn't turn internet back on automatically with "Time Scheduling". Well. I end up turn internet on manually. Sometimes, after you remove a MAC out of "Devices" list, that MAC just traps in there. No internet access!.

If you're planning to use AX6699 WITHOUT "Remote Management" and/or Parent Control, then it's a OK router. Otherwise, look something else.

I wouldn't say asus let's you "completely" customize the network. It allows certain customizations that competition does not

Very good router. I use mine as AP for my main router. This has quite a few advanced features and I found performance to be better than the Deco 6E mesh system that Costco is selling for $350. I kept this one and returned the Deco system.

If I use the AX86U as the main router, would I be able to use both of these as AP/mesh?

I was going to buy this (bought it and then returned) but I found a local deal for the Netgear Orbi AX6000 router + 2 satellite set for $400 that I couldn't pass up. I love the Orbi so far EXCEPT for the inability to split the SSID for 2.4 and 5 GHz. I go back and forth if I should switch...

Mikrotik is even harder to use vs unify. It is usually cheaper and has more control vs unify.

This asus is the easiest in term of mesh wirless.

I have 6 aimesh asus router with mikrotik 10gb fibers backhaul.

If you want ease of use, I recommend getting the Google mesh. It won't go fast and it won't go far, but it is easy.

Or wait until wifi 7. The wifi 7 chip is already here.

You plug a 4 or 8 port gigabit switch into it and put the hardwired devices on that. In many cases these higher end devices have at least 2 ports (one for wired backhaul and one for a hardwired device...or a switch for multiple wired devices). If you have 4 ports you put 3 high internet bandwidth high priority devices directly into it, but local traffic and lower priority devices (cameras, printers, sound systems) can go to the switch.

Wireless backhaul is amazing with these bad boys. I would say that at times its difficult to find stable software firmware updates for these. On some of the previous firmware releases they had problems working well with IOT devices. The most recent version of the firmware fixed those issues. Overall im very pleased with them.

You just plug them in to whatever unit is closest to your devices. There are 3 LAN ports on the back of each unit.

If that's not enough, you can put a network switch into one of the ports just like a USB hub on your computer.
